Paul Talbot | 3 comments I remember reading a book in the late 80s/early 90s, which I believe was part of a series, about a futuristic sci-fi version of Robin Hood. The only sequence I can remember is where a character puts in contact lenses which act as cameras - other people can directly see what he's seeing.

Any ideas?

Josie (maid_marian) | 100 comments The Sherwood Game?
or, (and this IS part of a series)
The Robin Hood Ambush?

Paul Talbot | 3 comments Hmmm... I don't think so. I don't remember time travel or virtual reality being part of the plot. I'm pretty sure it was just set in the future with analogs of Robin Hood characters.

Hum, I remember a series somewhat like this Paul--but I can NOT for the life of me remember who it was by--or even the series name. I'll check around my (3k or so) books and see if I still have any of the books from the series. I seem to remember that they were all based on STORIES rather than real life people--almost like the people involved weren't aware that they were stories and thought that they were real events in the past or something.

Altho I will point out that book two of The Complete Ivory by Doris Egan has a similar theme--except for the contact lens at any rate. The name of the specific book is Two-Bit Heroes

Snail in Danger (Sid) Nicolaides (upsight) | 289 comments Perhaps Santiago: A Myth of the Far Future? It's sort of Robin Hood-ish, though I can't recall anything with camera contact lenses. And it's not YA.

Apparently the camera contact lens thing happened in Artemis Fowl, though that fails the Robin Hood criterion.

Paul Talbot | 3 comments Thanks for the suggestions, guys. It definitely wouldn't have been Artemis Fowl as I remember borrowing the book from a friend in high school so it would have been well before that was published.

That would have been around 1989 - 1991, so that's why my memory is vague. I do recall the character wearing the lenses making some kind of excuse about having found them somewhere, in order to explain his constant blinking (which had the effect of interrupting the transmission). But, I can't really remember any other solid details - not sure why that scene stuck in my mind so well but nothing else!

I'll be offline for a day or so soon, so TIA for any other suggestions, I'll keep checking them out!
