Beholder's Eye by Julie Czerneda this whole trilogy is excellent.

If you like Star Trek, The Final Reflection by John M Ford is excellent. It's the life story of a Klingon who rises from being a gladiator slave to command a diplomatic mission to the Federation. There's quite a bit of Klingon culture that's probably no longer considered canon, but it's a very interesting read.

Their Majesties' Bucketeers is told entirely from the POV of aliens. There are no humans in the story at all. Kind of a mystery.

Becomin Alien is also very good. Though, there is a human protagonist, many of the reactions and interactions are of the aliens reacting to the human and not from the human's POV.
