[answered] "Related series"- how is it populated?

Ibnotice that when viewing a series, sometimes over at the right there's a box "RELATED SERIES" that shows (duh) serieses that are related to the one I'm viewing. How is this populated? See for example the last couple of posts on this thread, where someone's requesting it for Malazan serieses:

"Related series" is a confusing name, as it is just series by the same author.
