is anybody else annoyed by Julie, and thinks she's rather a spoiled brat?

I hope she doesn't end up with Derek. He deserves better. I like Ascanio too, but I think Ascanio will be better for Julie than Derek, because Derek spoils Julie too like everybody else.
That's the other thing that annoys me. Julie comes off as ungrateful to me because she acts like a typical teen. Where other kids like Red and Derek had it rough, Juile could have had it rough too (and had for a little while) but was saved from all that by Kate. And how does she respond, by acting all emo? Going on 'Goth' stage? Kids who've had a tough life - they don't act like that. They could turn out bad like Red, who ends up trusting no one and only looking out for number one - or end up like Derek, who has a sense of responsibility even for one so young.
They don't act like kids with '1st world problems', but Julie does. And it annoys me - hahahaha ...

You are exactly right and I hadn't considered it from that angle. Ascanio is pretty close to typical though.

But Julie, she gets more annoying by each book and honestly acts like a spoiled brat.
(view spoiler)[Ascanio is the one who is supposed to be spoiled, and he is, but somehow, it's not really annoying in the same way Julie is. I guess it's because Julie was not supposed to come off as "spoiled" but just strong willed, but honestly, the way her 'strong-willed' attitude is portrayed just makes her look selfish, immature, and ungrateful. I am completely unsympathetic when it comes to her. (hide spoiler)]
