Hi Bopeep! Honestly I’m very behind on all of my buddy reads this month, but I’m definitely going to start this one no matter what. I’ve been looking forward to it all month too because everyone says that Six of Crows is the best Grishaverse book!! I definitely hope so
I was thinking, do you want to buddy read Crooked Kingdom as well? That way we can read the duology back to back? If not, no pressure!

Actually, I didn't even finish the first chapter yesterday ^^' BUT I did really enjoyed what I've read so far! I think Bardugo's writing style did a really big jump from Shadow and Bone to this one :O
Yes, yes, yes! I wanted to propose that too, but I forgot the name of the book haha We can decide the schedule when we are about to finish this one ^^
I finished my other buddy read so I'm not so behind anymore. but yes, I'm bound to fall behind on this one eventually too haha. I also started the book yesterday but didn't finish it either, so we're the same right now xD
and that's so great to hear! I wasn't sure if it was going to be too much or not. if anything we can just keep commenting on this thread to make it easier on mina

I still don't know what to think of the characters, but the heist they're going to do would be awesome. I really want to read more!
I'm not sure why, but I think that Kaz would die at the end of the duology? It seems like karma is going to crush him haha

BTW, in the reschedule I did... I forgot chapters 36-39. *facepalm* though I think we will read at our own pace for now?
lol it's okay! Im not even caught up to where we're supposed to be anyway, so yes our own pace works just fine.
I've been trying to avoid coming here until I was fairly caught up, but life happens and I still haven't read as much as I wanted to. I'm roughly at chapter 8, where they just broke Matthias out of prison. So far, Kaz has been my favorite. yes, he's totally ruthless but he had to survive somehow.

I'm excited to get to chapter 11 now! I'm going to be really honest....I've been a little disinterested so I welcome chaos at this point lol. the story has been a little slow for me so maybe that's why it's taking me longer to read? it's not as interesting as I thought it was going to be. but I think it's just because we have to get the group established first and THEN jump into all the the action

I'm not sure who my favorite character is by now, but Kaz isn't D:
okay, so I've been a little m.i.a. this week but I've caught up to chapter 13 and you were right there's a lot that happened! I'm also glad we got some action going. nothing too much of note to me really, but the only thing that really stuck out to me is Kaz and Inej's relationship. it's like love/hate kinda? they need each other but they refuse to acknowledge it and they bury it deep down.
I get a day off today though and I'm planning to read as much as I can! I think the action finally sparked some interest in me lol.

Yes, Inej and Kaz relationship is nice, though neither would accept any feeling towards the other haha
Well! Finally the action strikes again! But it took 350+ pages and that's sloooow (I'm on chapter 30). I'm liking all the secrets and new turns with what the characters can do. I'm still waiting for Wylan's development, but we will see!
(view spoiler)
I wanted to also comment some of the character's past~
Inej: oh, when I've read that they kidnapped her I was scared. I mean, she was a little girl and suddenly her world was torn apart. It's so scary that things like this can happen in real life too D:
Nina and Matthias : I kind of like their past? I like how they feel towards each other. "I'm meant to hate you but I like you".
Kaz: oh well, his past was the most traumatic for now. I understand how he feels about touching anyone after what happened, and I can't imagine how a little boy could survive that kind of trauma.
No worries! I've gotten back into it as well, I'm currently up to Ch. 34ish? Yes!!! I was really surprised when Jesper was revealed as a grisha!! I thought it added more depth to his character and I agree about wylan...we slowly get to learn about him through Jesper but not enough to know him as a person. I think the person with the most development so far is Inej (for me), and I'm really excited to see where the story leads. Kaz is..... something alright. There's so much to him that it's not hard to understand why he does certain things but it doesn't mean it's right (like when he took that one guy's eyes out on the ship). Honestly my least favorite characters right now are Nina and Matthias. I think they're kind of....boring? lol. idk, their parts of the story just seem incredibly slow to me. BUT there's A LOT of complicated feelings between them, and I definitely like that.
anyway, the story is nearing to a close and I can't possibly see a way out for them. I'll keep coming back to the thread too! :) (also, thanks for reading this with me and having the patience to still talk about it!)

It was slow until arriving at the prison, but after that it was fast and smooth. Maybe it's because everyone says it's so good, but I didn't think it was that good (I put 4 starts, but it's more a 3.5 for me).
Yeah, Inej had a lot of development, I love her <3
Kaz is more a dark grey character or so. He does what he does for his own vengeance.
I think chapter 35 or 36 Nina and Matthias got better, but I can't remember why haha ^^'
No need to thank me! I was slow too, and I like to comment books to have some motivation for reading.

Do you still want to read the next book with me? I'm ALL in <3
Yes, of course I'll still read it! would you like to set it up as a buddy read for March? or for the next few weeks of February? I haven't finished yet (listening to the audiobook when I can), but I'm still toooottaaallly down to continue the series! :)

Okay sounds good! let's plan it for March then? I know it can be overwhelming when there're other books you want to read in the same time span. Plus it'll give me a bit of room to for sure finish this one. I'm 80% done with it, so I'm almost there! :)

How are you doing with the book? Anything new you want to comment? 👀
I actually just finished it! Like 10 minutes ago lol. It was okay in the end. I don't think it was my favorite Leigh Bardugo book but I liked the storyline despite it being very slow in the beginning. I wasn't a fan of Inej being captured because they turned her into a damsel in distress and I very much liked that she was a bad ass and could fend for herself, you know? I was also a bit surprised learning that Kaz had set Pekka free. I don't know what I expected but it wasn't that. the ending was terrible though, and I'm excited for what the next book brings :)

I suspected that Pekka was alive because Kaz didn't say anything about him at all. And you now, if there's no corpse, there's no dead hahaha
Yess I'm expecting a super big vengeance on the next book, For some reason, this kind of books are my favorites.
I guess I didn't see Inej from that point of view, but yeah that makes a lot of sense. I'm excited too!
and sorry, I meant to say the ending *WASN'T terrible hahaha, typo my bad. Anyway, super excited for it as well!

Do you want to read the next from the 1st to th 12th of March?
Yeah, that should work fine for me! Knowing how long it took me to read this book, i think it'll be a perfect pace :)
