I am currently reading The Inquisitor's Tale by Adam Gidwitz. It is historical fantasy, so not usually what I read, but I am loving it! He clearly has a rich knowledge of medieval France, and his writing skill and characters are excellent.

The Butterfly Collector by Tea Cooper
A decent historical story, but I expected far more. The title generates very different expectations.

I don't think you'll be disappointed, Crafty! I'm not alone in my enthusiasm. 😊
Joe Hill's The Pram is one of the Amazon Original Stories in the Creature Feature Collection. Good creepy read that comes to quite a sudden stop!
My review of The Pram
Known during the Depression as "the most violent woman in Sydney",
Iris
Webber led a rough and ready life as a thief and prostitute. Aussie author Fiona Kelly McGregor paints a vivid picture of the underworld and extreme poverty of the 1930s.
My review of Iris

The Wings of Poppy Pendleton by Melanie Dobson
A complicated storyline in this historical suspense, and a slow pace. But I still liked it.

I hope
The Incredible Hotel
actually exists somewhere, exactly the way Kate Davies and Isabelle Follath describe it. Lovely story and gorgeous artwork.
My review of The Incredible Hotel with several of the wonderful illustrations
Finished Emma by Jane Austen. Rated 5 stars; it's one of my favorites in classic literature. Read on Kindle while listening to Hoopla Audio. Fantastic narration by Anna Bentinck!Link to my review:

Luminous: The Story of a Radium Girl by Samantha Wilcoxson
An indie novel focussing on the life story of Catherine Donohue, the woman who filed a suit against Radium Dial for not letting its employees know about the harm caused by radium. The book goes a bit overboard on faith-related elements, bit it contains a heartbreaking story that is a must-read.

I’m reading Lamentation by C.J. Sansom - the 6th in the Matthew Shardlake mystery series. These take place during the reign of Henry VIII. Great series.

The book sounds very interesting. I am sorry to report my library has nothing by this author.
War and Turpentine is a poetic novelisation by Flemish Belgium author Stefan Hertmans of his grandfather’s life as an artist and a soldier in WWI. Here ismy review
I'm reading Chloe Gong's These Violent Delights. I think it's supposed to be a mix of YA fantasy and historical fiction and is set in Shanghai in the 1920s. I find that time in Chinese history absolutely fascinating and am enjoying the book a lot so far.
I finished
The Alice Network. Female spies working for the Brits during WWI, though the tale spans WWII. Three stars. I thought Quinn's The Huntress and The Rose Code were better.

Rachel wrote: "The book sounds very interesting. I am sorry to report my library has nothing by this author."It's again an indie work. I read a lot of indie fiction, so you might not find them in your library, which is very sad. This book deserves a wider audience. :/
Cristiana wrote: "That series looks really interesting, Tiziana!"It is if you like medieval setting, detection and action well mixed together .
I had already read Father Cadfael and Owen Archer by 2 well-known authors, E. Peters and Candace Robb, and I liked them a lot, but I find this series really really amazing.
The author manages to transport me exactly to those places with those people.
Obviously everything is subjective, the series is great to me and to my tastes, but of course it may not be the right one for others.
Daughter in ExileI am reading this book. It may be that I read it before but it is not in my GR list.
Ankle Snatcher, by Grady Hendrix, is NOT a bedtime story, unless you want to be awake all night with the lights on!
My review of Ankle Snatcher
The Sebastian St Cyr historical mystery series by C.S. Harris is just terrific. Searching for missing street children takes Lord Devlin to
Where the Dead Lie

Just started
- I'd been saving this one because once read I'm up to date with Laura Purcell and I wanted to keep one for later!
When heroin is discovered on the Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota, Virgil Wounded Horse goes after the cartel in Winter Counts by David Heska Wanbli Weiden. Excellent reading and perfect audio.
My review of Winter Counts
If a child seems a bit nervous about confronting An Unexpected Thing, a cheerful friend can help. Ashling Lindsay shows how in her cute book.
My review of An Unexpected Thing with some of the illustrations
I just finished reading The Silver Lotus by Thomas Steinbeck. The 3rd person narrative was different for me to get used to but I learnt a lot about Chinese culture and ship life which was a nice change from what I usually read.
The Other Year by Rea Frey
Expected to like this more but the double love triangles threw me off. Romance fans might like it better. Outlier review.

I am beginning to read, "North Woods," by Daniel Mason. The book was sent to me by the publisher, and was a delightful surprise to receive. Usually I don't enter contests where winning is random, as seemingly, I never win. This felt like winning!
Lost Dogs by indie Canadian author Lucie Pagé
If you enjoy literary fiction, do give this whimsical debut work a try.

Corelli's Mandolin is a cleverly written historical fiction and romance novel by English author Louis de Bernières, set in Kefalonia in Greece during the Italian occupation in WWII. What happens when enemies fall in love? ⭐⭐⭐⭐ here is my review
Finished Mrs. Porter Calling #3 Emmy Lake by A.J. Pearce. Set in London during WWII. Rated 3 stars. Sweet read. Lovely Audio narration by Anna Popplewell.
He Who Drowned the World by Asian Australian author Shelley Parker-Chan, is the sequel to She Who Became the Sun, together making a queer fantasy retelling of the establishment of the Ming dynasty. Quite brutal so not for the faint hearted, but well written, often humorous and historically interesting.review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Seating ArrangementsI just started this today. It is very light and easy about a wedding. I am going to a wedding in two weeks so it is very appropriate.

The Book Club Murders by Alan Gorevan
A good popcorn thriller, though it could have done with more bookish elements.
