Bruno Baretta Perhaps I'm spiking the football before the end zone, or pick whatever analogy you prefer, but I'm 200 pages into The Recognitions and I'm slightly puzzled why the book has the reputation it does for being difficult?

Don't get me wrong, it's not like I get every artistic or literary reference. But they're easy enough to look up, or often easy enough to understand based on the context. Plus, the prose is so rich and beautiful, I find myself lost in the text for hours at a time, even though I'm reading a little more slowly than I usually do.

Maybe there's a shoe to drop drop and the thing will get much more difficult, but for now I'm loving this book. I guess you could consider this a difficult book if you expect to rip through 100 books a year and find this one messing up your pace. Like, yes, it takes time to read. But don't most things worth reading take time to read? But if you focus and take your time, it's really not so hard to follow, at least for me and at least so far. And it's really good, so that helps too
