Did you enjoy Babel: An Arcane History? I feel like I've heard so many mixed opinions about it, and at this point it's just so talked about that I'm nervous of picking it up.

What has been your favorite book so far of the year?

Thanks! I finished it just last night - it took me a long time to get through. In part because it's so hefty, but also because it can be a bit of a slog in places. The writing is exceptional, along with the level of detail. But at points it did feel like some things could be cut and I'm never a fan of a footnote (there's plenty in this book). It's definitely interesting and I'm glad I read it, but maybe I was expecting a bit more given the amount of hype around it.

I'd say my favourite book so far this year is 'If We Were Villains' closely followed by 'One Italian Summer'. :)

I totally get that. That's the downside of reading "newer" releases - everyone feeds of each other and the ratings haven't balanced themselves out yet.

I'm extremely curious about it though - the whole premise sounds so intriguing and right up my alley. I just have to find the time to fit it in :)

Ooh yeah, I enjoyed if 'If We Were Villains" - haven't read 'One Italian Summer' yet though. Not sure if it's too "chick lit" for my tastes... Will have to think about it. The fact that I didn't like "In Five Years" doesn't really help :D
