Admittedly, I didn't like the main character right away but I quickly grew to appreciate where she was coming from and enjoyed the love story. I can't remember where I found this out but her writing was influenced by Diana Galbadon, so you'd see similarities.

Lauren | 1442 comments I just read Follow The Heart by Anita Mills. The last half took place around the French and Indian War. So many indigenous characters that shape the story. Does this count for my American Natives category?

message 104: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 1442 comments I want to read Into The Wilderness

message 105: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 1442 comments expect. it's a long series

message 106: by Christine (new)

Christine | 211 comments lol it has satisfying ending, so you won't need to get into the full series if you don't have the time. I suspect someone else will be able to answer your question for the Anita Mills book.

message 107: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 1442 comments Oh, it just moves on to the next family member? It looks good, but I'm not good at long series.

I'm going to count, Follow My Heart!

I think the next one follows the same couple but at some point it transitions to other characters like their daughter. But I felt that Into the Wilderness had a solid ending and swoony quotes all on its own :).

Lauren | 1442 comments Victorian: Sinfully Wed By Kathleen Ayers

my choice: False of Heart by Elizabeth Hewitt

message 110: by Mariana (new)

Mariana | 2692 comments I need to start my Time Travel book, or I won't finish before the end of the month!

message 111: by Christine (last edited Aug 03, 2023 01:29PM) (new)

Christine | 211 comments I read a lot of contemporary this month. I did get around to The Starlet Spy, but the romance is a subplot. Hopefully I can get to one for Your Choice.

Update: & I did! Remember Love was my best read for July.

Mariana, what did you choose for time travel?

Lauren | 1442 comments Do the characters have to live in America for the Civil War category?

message 125: by Mariana (new)

Mariana | 2692 comments I don't think so. I read one set in Scotland, but it discussed cotton for weaving and the difficulty with shipping and the war.

message 126: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 1442 comments Thanks Mariana! That helps me pick a book

Lauren | 1442 comments I'm reading The Diamond Slipper by Jane Feather. I hope it's not too depressing

message 140: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 1442 comments Damn! That JF book is Georgian, not from the Stewart era. Oh well, back to the TBR list.

🐝 Shaz 🐝 | 1249 comments It would be better if they started books with a date on the first page.
With a date at least we know what timeline we are reading straight away. Instead of realising part way through the story.

I really prefer that, too. People also don't always categorize the right books on the GR lists, so putting it on page that's available with the preview can save time.
