Watcha' Doing - 2023
Thanks for all the well wishes, guys!I'm better today but still feeling terrible.
Congrats to your cousin, Christine!
@Janice - So sorry to hear about your Dad and his broken pelvis.@Margo - I am sorry to hear about the loss of your Mam.
@Sarah - It is nice to hear from you and that all is going well.
@Christine - Congratulations on your new cousin.
I spent 10 days at the end of October without internet and wi-fi at my sister's house in southern Oregon - dog sitting for her. I enjoyed myself listening to audiobooks, doing jigsaw puzzles and working in her yard. I stacked firewood, cut blackberry vines, and pulled weeds. It was down in the low 30Fs at night, but the electric blanket she put on my bed was wonderful! We only got to spend one and a half days together, but it was ok. She went on a cruise to Mexico with some friends. she said she would not do it again. I am back home and at work. It was a beautiful day for Halloween yesterday. In the mid 40Fs, no wind and clear. It is raining today.
Cherie, that sounds so relaxing. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I've never been a cruise but I know I wouldn't like it, so I understand your sister.
We've got here storm Ciaran in Belgium. I don't know how it is in the UK and Scotland, where it also passes, but it's horrible! I've got the late shift at work and because I don't have a driver's license, I do everything by bike. I didn't need wings to fly! I did some parts by foot, everywhere tree branches on the road, a horibble wind and rain. We've got gusts of wind of 110km/hour. I hope it calms down when I need to go home.
That's sad, Saar. I'm glad you made it safely, but I can understand how unsettling is to walk through a storm. I hope the weather calmed down now.
We've got lots of rain and wind today. The last past weeks it rained everyday, lots and lots. Normally it'll be dryer next week. I hope so. My garden is like a swamp and in the pastures, where my horse stands, it's very muddy and you sink through it.

Not as bad as poor Jersey though.
I'm glad that you had not much of the storm, Margo. Hopefully the weather will calm down for a lot of countries now.
That's awful, Saar! I hope it calmed down by the time you had to go home. must've been pretty scary getting to work in that.
It was very scary. I don't want to do that again. It has now been raining for 3 weeks. Almost non -stop. The western part of Belgium has floods now and the disaster plan is in action. That's not far from us. There is flood expected from France where the rivers and streams are now overflowing from the rain, so it goes to the rivers in Belgium. I went to my horse today and I was glad I got my boots on. He's okay with his friends and a shelter in the pasture. If it continues like this, he needs to go into his stable, but I know he'll not enjoy it. The forecasts are rain for the next 2 weeks.
Christine wrote: "IT’S DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME!"We had that almost 2 weeks ago. It's always getting used to it.

I hope your house doesn't get affected, and that your horse can stay in his shelter.

It's scary and makes us wonder what the future has in store. I feel so sorry for all the animals. Your horse is lucky to have such a responsible owner, not all will be so blessed.
@Margo: thank you for the kind words. I try to do the best for my animals. Well, it's only in West - Flanders. The other part of Belgium isn't affected by so many rain. The rain from Northern France is coming in, because it rains so much over there. For now, it isn't getting any better. Tomorrow one dry day and then we're off again. I rode my bike yesterday to get home and some streets were flooding.Northern - France is badly affected with evacations. We'll have more of this in the future years...
@Saar I caught glimpses on the news. It looked really bad. Stay safe.On my side, I just got my first round of Covid. I had just realized I had forgotten to renew my vaccine and was supposed get it end of this month. oops. I guess i was bound to get it at some point.
I basically sleep for 2 days and took me half another one to get out of bed long enough to air out my room and change my sheets.
It was not fun but I am well ware that it could have been worst. Still i do not recommend the experience.
I am now stuck with a case of cabin fever, I guess I am recovering well.
Hi everyone, I haven't been around much. Life got complicated the last couple of weeks. All the pipes of our house have to be changed. The container of resin in our water softener broke, the resin went with the water everywhere in the house and clogged all the pipes. 4 plumbers spent a whole afternoon trying to unclogged them, but only manage to unclogged the hot water pipes. So here we are. Right now we have 2 toilets and 1 shower functioning, which is great, but we had a few of very complicated days. And of course we will need to sell a kidney to pay for this. But I think the worst is behind us. I can't wait until it is over.
Oh no, that sounds horrible Sandra!I hope you feel better soon Esther!
I had no idea it was so bad in Belgium Saar. We've had the storm and rains and winds too but it's not causing any issues.
@Esther: I hope you feel better soon. Take enought time to rest.@Sandra: oh no, that's horrible! Can't the insurrance cover this?
@Peggy: I'm glad that there's no issues. It stayed dry for a day, but now raining again. So it will be tomorrow and then it would stop. We'll see.
Saar, I hope they will cover some. Now that we have a better understanding of what it's going on and how much it will cost I have to contact them and hope for the best.
@Esther: Take care of yourself. Covid can linger for some time.@Sandra: I didn't even know that could happen, what a disaster! Hope the insurance comes through for you.
We had a red weather alert on sunday night/monday morning for west coast and midlands. Lots of power outages and trees down. Record flooding in Galway where the winds caught the high tides.
There's outrage here that the actual wind speeds only met the criteria for orange alert! It's forecasting folks, works on probability!!! People should be relieved to have got off lightly not complaining about "scaremongering" - sheesh!
@Sandra: I hope with you.@Margo: oh no, that's so bad! Forecast is not a 100% rocket science. People should be relieved that it was 'only' orange alert.
Thanks Janice! :)@Margo: lol, that happens here everytime there's a weather alert. But I think they started overusing it. There's a yellow alert (the lowest) nowadays for every thunderstorm for example. But 99.9% of the time, there might be thunder but nothing serious. So for many people at first they laughed at the yellow alarm, and now it's more like 'yeah yeah yeah whatever'. I think the yellow one is just meant to stay aware, not to stay at home or anything, but still.
Pfew, I just spent 4 hours to get home after work, it normally takes only 1. I was halfway home (by train) when there was a collision involving a train coming in the other direction. So we couldn't go any further and waited for very long before we turned back to the station we started from. So basically 1 hour and 45 minutes after I left for home, I was back where I started. Then I had to take a detour that takes twice as long as my normal route. And this is exactly why I never ever travel without a book. Made good progress today ;-)
I actually could have avoided this because I was in time for an earlier train, but that one was super busy so I decided to wait 10 minutes for the next which is always so much quieter. And then you get this, lol.
Hope the collision wasn't serious Peggy and yes, it's awful to be left without a book in those situations.I had my toenail surgically removed yesterday. It's my third time on the same toe so I asked them to take the entire nailbed this time so it can't grow back. Well - that's what I thought till after the op the surgeon came around to see me operation and told me that he thought he'd got it all but if he'd any bits I may need to get them after maybe 2 years! I guess they're looking for repeat these days ;-)
I'm glad you're home, Peggy and you got saved by your book. That sounds really painful, Margo. I hope it doesn't grow back.
Next week is Thanksgiving break here, so I do not have classes at all this week, but my kids do on Monday and Tuesday. I have so much to do, though. I plan to write two essays, do a slide presentation and an infographic about bilingualism this week. Wish me luck. It good be nice to clean my house a little. Thirteen weeks into the semester you can notice the lack of attention... :(
I can't imagine studying next to my normal life. You rock Sandra! And Saar too!
And anyone else doing this!
