Prosenjit Paul (bangaloredbong) | 55 comments Its a long weekend in India- as 2nd October is Mahatma Ganshi's birthday, a national holiday.

However I am working to cover for others who are on leave. Will take time off later this month as its Dussera/Diwali holiday season in India so thats fine!!

Only regret- reading has slowed down as too much work!!

That's great. I'm impatient to fix the problem with new posts.

Esther (nyctale) | 5191 comments I went and spend part of Thanksgiving weekend at friends in Cantons de l’est (Three Pines area for Louise Penny’s fan). We drove to Sherbrooke to see a show. It was a nice break.

I see that the "unread" situation is getting better. I still have a few threads that refuse to be "read" but most are behaving now.

Janice (jamasc) | 59890 comments How cool to visit the Three Pines area, Esther. The bug seems to be fixed for the most part. I still have some full threads coming up, but they disappear from the unread folder once I've read them.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments Louis Penny is on my "have to try as soon as possible" list. Glad to know you had a good time, Esther.

Every time I do, part of me hopes to get lost and stumble on Three Pines. Part of me hopes I do not as, as a visitor there, my chances of getting out alive are not so great. :)

message 717: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments It's true! It happens to me too. And also the other way around. I fix something and then I can't remember, what I did, to do it again or to explain someone else how to do it.

message 718: by Esther (new)

Esther (nyctale) | 5191 comments i think that is a general rule for everyone. Either "How did I do this the last time? or "What did I just do?" seem the two main questions.

message 719: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59890 comments I think my usual response is "What did I just do?"

message 720: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Sandra - I hope you all enjoyed your mum's visit!

Janice - sorry to hear about your mother in law and that your dad isn't doing too well. I hope he is settled in to the Lodge now.

I'm a bit late to the party, I know those were from September. Seems to have been quiet on here in October.

Things are good with me. The stress has dropped off from my NHS job and my business is picking up at last. September was dead but it gave me lots of time to focus on processes and catch up on things I had neglected over the pandemic. So I'm happy with how things are going now. I made the right decision. Only 2 weeks to go until the hypnosis convention I organise. I can't wait. It was my birthday on Monday. I had a lovely weekend with friends, my boyfriend and my parents. Unfortunately, the day after my parents were up, my mum tested positive for covid, so I've been holed up all week waiting for the inevitable. I've had a headache but that's probably me just worrying about the prospect of getting covid. I had it this time last year and it was horrible. And really put a dampener on the convention. Such bad timing what with just getting my business started again. However, still testing negative so I think I will head in to work tomorrow if I still test negative. I got my results for the first module of my psychology degree - passed with distinction, so I am very happy. I am really enjoying doing the course, so pleased I decided to do it. I hope you are all doing well, I've missed you all. I have done so little reading of late. I am still reading the fiction book I started months ago. I have about 6 non fiction books on the go which I keep switching between, all audios have fallen off totally, the only reading I seem to manage is uni stuff and that's mostly as I only have to read a specific chapter each week. Maybe I need to set a goal for myself for my fiction book. X pages or 15 minutes for day to get back in to it. I have SOOOOO many books on my kindle I haven't read yet.

message 721: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19141 comments Hi, Sarah! So nice to hear from you! I'm glad you had a nice birthday, but sorry your mom has Covid. Hopefully, if you do end up with it, it will be a milder case than the first time. I had it twice and the first time was definitely worse. So happy that otherwise you are doing well and your business and courses are going well. It's completely understandable that you've had no time for fiction reading with how busy you've been!

message 722: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59890 comments So good to hear from you, Sarah, and that you are in a good place. Happy Birthday.

My dad was in the lodge for one week when he fainted. He required stitches in his head and a CT scan revealed he'd broken his pelvis. He's in hospital for 3 months. Surgery can't fix this injury. It's become apparent that he needs more care than lodge level, so will need a nursing home whenever he gets out of hospital.

message 723: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments It's certainly a milder case for my mum. I think the strains are different now too. Things have definitely been busy but I think once the convention is out of the way, things will quieten down a bit and I'll settle back into a rhythm with my work and studies.

Sorry to hear of your dad's fall, Janice, that is such bad luck. I hope he heals as well as he can and sounds like he will be getting the care he needs in the hospital.

The weather is so strange here at the moment. One minute it's feeling uncharacteristically summery, then the next it's autumnal, as expected, then wintery, and we've had loads of flash floods. Today is a sunny, crisp autumnal day.

message 724: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19141 comments I love sunny, crisp autumn days. Enjoy that one! It’s sunny and in the low 80s (F°) here today. I am loving it. It is supposed to be rainy and only mid 50s (F°) tomorrow. Yuck

message 725: by Esther (new)

Esther (nyctale) | 5191 comments well.. it has been snowing all day here. (it is really piling up). This made me realized I had totally forgotten about my family exchange gift. This year theme is "lumiere" (light)

I am taking all ideas. I can't think of something original I can link to the concept.

message 726: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments Glad to see you around, Sarah, and hear your mum is having a mild case. And for you, if you are still negative, you might have been lucky and didn't get it. No news is good news.

It is raining bad nasty here. I hope it gets better before going trick or treating tomorrow.

Esther, what about those little projectors that project stars, or galaxies or whatever? It is not original, I admit, but I love those. We have 2 at home.

it's been a while since I've had time to post. My Mam died on October 9. She kept us busy right to the end and we're lost without her. Myself and my cared for her with lots of help my hubby. She had Parkinsons along with many other ailments so it was very full on.

message 733: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19205 comments So good to hear from you, Sarah. Glad you're business is picking up and you are feeling good about the decision. Sounded like it was exactly what you needed to do, and now you can go back into private practice with more experience.

Grats on the semester results too! I remember my reading dropped right off while at uni. I picked it up again one winter semester break in earnest. We had a wood fire in our share house and the central heating had broken and the landlord was too lazy to fix it. I put an armchair in front of the fire and a pile of books. I sat in that chair and moved books from one side of the chair to the other over the six weeks. Didn't read a book again during semester, but that break of sitting in front of the heating in made a huge dent in my reading pile and made me want to read more when I wasn't reading textbooks or journals.

Hope your mum is doing well, and you're still testing negative. We just had our first case at work in 9 months or so, and I realised my vaccination was really out of date. Now have a sore arm from the booster that won't do much for the new variant but will hopefully take the edge off.

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19205 comments Oh no! Sorry to hear about your Dad, Janice. Particularly as he was taking some convincing. I hope he is healing well, and is being a good patient. That is a long time to be in hospital, but I understand why. Hope he has some distractions.

Hope you're doing okay too.

And I’m sorry to hear about your dad, Janice, I hope he’ll recover fast!

After being able to avoid it all this time, Covid finally got me. I had a 39° (102.2°) fever pretty much all day and it just won’t go away. I can barely do anything and my head is exploding, plus I have the nastiest cough ever.

I'm so sorry to hear you're sick, Fiona. I justed watched Netflix when I've got Covid. Reading was to much of an effort. Rest as many as you need and painkillers against headache and fever can help. I hope you will feel better soon.

Sarah | 18550 comments Sorry to hear of your loss Margo. That's hard. Take care of yourself.

You paint a cosy picture Rusalka of you reading by the fire! Well, except the broken heating!

My mum tested negative today so she's out and about. I'm also in the clear. I had my vaccine about a month ago. When I started testing last week, I had a faint positive then the following 8 tests were negative. I assumed a false negative but wondering if my vaccine and immune system just kicked it's butt quickly lol. I have had a headache all week and what i thought was a very slight asthma flare. Who knows! Hope you feel better Fiona from your case!

@ Christine - Congratulations to your cousin! That is wonderful news!

@ Sarah - I'm glad your mom tested negative and you are testing negative as well. Very strange about the one positive test. Maybe you had a mild case and you were able to fight it off quickly. Glad you are feeling better.

He's resigned to it. He's not able to get out of bed so can't threaten to run away. He phoned me yesterday to hear my voice. It was a sweet hi and goodbye. A few weeks ago, he phoned me at 3:00 am - three calls! He was confused and thought he was being discharged. (at 3:00 on a Sunday morning).

I'm finding it very difficult. I feel guilty because I can't just jump in the car and drive 7 hours like I could before. I know that's misplaced guilt. My sister will be arriving on Thursday for 6 days, so I'm feeling let off the hook,

I'm sure he is being visited by physio but he can't remember. I talked to him at 1:30 yesterday and he couldn't remember if he got lunch let alone what it was.
