The Catholic Review attempted to do the same when I was a kid. The outcome will be the same. Whatever they are fighting to ban will see increased sales. It doesn't work.
Kids being kids will do their best to buy any book banned, watch any movie or TV show they are told not to watch, and listen closely to any lyrics not in favor at the moment.
It isn't a right or left decision. Both groups have an agenda. A little spin one way or the other is used to support whichever side of the aisle you sit.
Sharon wrote: "Whatever they are fighting to ban will see increased sales. It doesn't work.."I agree. If anything, bans only encourage kids to seek out whatever is being banned.
It is all political. I think the particular woman in the case of Nora's books is enjoying the power she thinks she has over others.

I agree. She likes to hear herself talk.
The difference between what others who tried to similarly ban music/books/arts is that their recommendations were put forth to a majority opinion. What we are dealing with today is a minority majority rule who does not want to debate.
I don’t care who puts forth this stuff. What’s more dangerous is that there’s not an open forum on which to debate and discuss these issues. That’s how bad ideas die. Apparently, the process that the governor put in place allows books to be removed just by one person recommending it if, in their opinion, it fits the guidelines. That’s what I was referring to as moronic. That woman has every right to make those ill-conceived recommendations; it’s the process that’s scary.

As sex scenes go, Nora's are fairly tame. My girls all read R.L. Stein in middle school and Steven King in high school, not romance.
IT’S INTERNATIONAL SCURVY AWARENESS DAY AND IT’S NATIONAL FIRE DAY AND IT’S NATIONAL LIFE INSURANCE DAY AND IT’S NATIONAL PLAY YOUR UKULELE DAY!
Anita wrote: "As sex scenes go, Nora's are fairly tame. My girls all read R.L. The woman who demanded the ban called them "pornography". Totally delusional!
To get into the topic of banned books, I am glad that I am not in high school anymore because it's gotten so political to the point where if I were in high school today, I would've talked to my family about homeschooling and probably would've burned some bridges if it didn't happen. But I will say this, the time when I was in high school, I brought one Nora Roberts book with me to school, just one time, and guess what happened...NOTHING!
On a more lighter note: my Microsoft Surface tablet came in yesterday and already it's becoming the best purchase I've made for ebooks.

I don't think one day a year is going to do anything to stop bullying. It is funny that I never recognized that I was bullied until I got older. It was the "mean kids" who tried to intimidate anyone they thought they could. Adults said things like, "it is the way they are" or "you need to get a "stiff upper lip" or "show them their words can't hurt you." Sadly, I think there will always be bullies.
IT’S HUG A SHED A TAKE A SELFIE DAY AND IT’S INTERNATIONAL MIDWIVES DAY AND IT’S INTERNATIONAL SPACE DAY AND IT’S MUSEUM LOVER’S DAY AND IT’S NO PANTS DAY AND IT’S PESACH SHENI AND IT’S NATIONAL SILENCE THE SHAME DAY AND IT’S REVENGE OF THE FIFTH!

I saw Nora's interview on some TV channel. It's so crazy - the books being banned are the ones in The Bride Quartet.
