Michele | 629 comments I bought a Kindle book today, Independent People by Halldor Laxness. Nobel Prize for Literature 1955. Set in Iceland, a saga about a sheep farmer and his daughter in the early 20th C. It was not on sale, unfortunately, but a bargain nevertheless at $13.99.

I found it because it was recommended for those who liked Ali and Nino, one of my favorite historical novels of all time, which I just finished re-reading. I hope I like Iceland half as much as Baku. And I hope you love the educational books you selected. I like to read them, too. And the cost per use is always very low because it takes so long to finish them!

Yes ! When you compare it to the cost of a 2 hour movie, books are quite the bargain.

Independent People by Halldór Laxness sounds interesting. I hope Independent People is just as good as Ali and Nino

I like the cover with the sheep Independent People by Halldór Laxness

These novels sound interesting, Michele. I'm happy when i learn readers have found a treasure of books about a place/setting and characters which call to them. Enjoy!

I'm happy for you, Alias. What a good deal, particularly given your library's lapse. :-)

Deb, for various reasons, NYC library funding is being cut. Their hours and their purchases are taking a hit.

So I decided to cancel my audible subscription and instead use that monthly fee to buy eBooks.

With the Kindle Rewards Program, it makes purchasing a bit easier.
