I just finished The Winners, Fredrik Backman. I loved this last book in the Beartown Trilogy, but it was dark and the violence bothered me. I just started The House of Eve, by Sadeqa Johnson. I loved her last book Yellow Wife. This one sounds excellent, too.
Bridget wrote: "Kirsten wrote: "Bridget wrote: "I finished The Martian. This was by far the best book I've read in a little bit and my first 5 star book of the year. I've never seen the movie, so I..."Exactly. It's why I try to watch the movie first and then read the book.
Finished:
More Than You'll Ever Know⭐️⭐️There is no good ending in a love triangle
The Kiss Curse⭐️⭐️⭐️ Enjoyable rom com
Olga Dies Dreaming⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Enjoyable story line. Political themes helped to weave a good storyline.
The Boy from the Woods⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Great mystery. Hester and Wilde are great characters
House of Hunger⭐️I just kept hoping for something more. The book felt long and drawn out.
Violeta⭐️⭐️⭐️A sweeping sage over 100 years.
The Bark Cutters is a dual timeline family saga by Australian author Nicole Alexander. It follows the story of Hamish Gordon moving from the Scottish Highlands to Australia in the 1850s and his efforts setting up a successful property Wangallan. The second storyline is about his great-granddaughter Sarah who is torn between two men, and between a life on the land and an escape to the city. Here is my review
I just finished these:

Maame My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Both were really good, but had confusing bits on audio. I would recommend a physical copy.

Skin of the Sea is a retelling of the Little Mermaid story by Natasha Bowen. It is set in the 14th century Oyo Empire (modern day Nigeria) during the time of Portuguese slave ships and features black mermaids (Mami Wata), West African mythology, gods and goddesses and a gentle romance. The Proxy Bride is a dual timeline historical fiction by Italian Australian Zoe Boccabella. It shifts between 1980s Queensland with 16-year-old Sofie seeking answers about her parentage; and her grandmother’s story, emigrating from Italy in 1939 on a bride ship, to an arranged marriage and a new country. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ here is my review
I really enjoyed this one. It took me a while to review because I felt conflicted on it, but overall I thought it was a good read. My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...Currently reading Townshipped and Daisy Darker.
The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart by Australian author Holly Ringland is the beautiful lyrical story of a girl who grows up with hardship and loss and learns how to express herself using the language of flowers on her grandmother's wildflower farm. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ here is my review
I just finished All Her Little Secrets by Wanda Morris one of the best mysteries I have read in a long time. I am currently reading The Silent Patient and The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo.
I just finished Townshipped
. It was really cute. My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I also finished Sudden Death
. It was another great addition to the series. I haven't reviewed it, but honestly I don't know what to say about it that I haven't already said about other books in the series. It's fun. There are a few too many mob ties for my taste, but I love the humor in it.
Just started the The Last Orphan
. It's the most recent book in the Orphan X series.

Before the Coffee Gets Cold by Japanese author Toshikazu Kawaguchi is a time-travel novel where people visit a café in Tokoyo which enables them to return to the past. A series of short stories feature different people who choose to travel to revisit a lost love, a departed sibling, or even an unborn child. Here is my review
I just finished The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. It was a good book. I am now reading The Collective.
Finished:
Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries⭐️⭐️⭐️ Enjoyable reading about Faeries . Slow at first, picks up halfway through the book
Ella Enchanted⭐️⭐️⭐️ Different from the movie. Fun light reading.
Jackal⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Very interesting & surprisingly mysterious at times.
The Hotel Nantucket⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️After the first 1/3 of the book the rest goes by fast. Fun with a bit of mystery.
The Bromance Book Club⭐️⭐️⭐️ Fun rom-com!
Maame⭐️⭐️⭐️Late bloomers coming of age story.
Nettle & Bone⭐️⭐️I just couldn’t get into this story.
The Reading List⭐️⭐️⭐️The book was enjoyable and relatable!
The House of Eve⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Such a wonderful story. So much to learn about.
I finished a few books in the last few weeks. The Golden Compass was very good, I'm looking forward to the other two books and to finally see the TV series. Hell Bent was a really good sequel. I think I liked it better than the first book. And Another Thing... was an unnecessary sequel. I really didn't like some of the things that Eoin Colfer added into the book that had never been mentioned in the series before, such as the Asgardian Gods. Sorrowland was a pretty good modern fantasy book. I'm slightly disappointed that this isn't going to be a series. I would've liked more.Currently reading:
ABC Murders
The Daughter of Doctor Moreau
Kristie wrote: "You've been busy, Cammy! I love the variety in your reading."My book clubs are keeping me busy😊
Finished:
The Diamond Eye⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Great storytelling with fact & fiction! Not a dull moment.
Maybe Someday⭐️⭐️ Drama, it felt too long and drawn out. Both Sydney’s & Ridge’s pov are told.
The Flatshare is a fun rom-com by English author Beth O'Leary. Quirky Londoner Tiffy is desperate to find a new flat and lovable palliative care nurse Leon offers her an affordable solution when he rents out his flat and bed to her to use while he’s working nightshift. Their friendship grows gradually through a series of post-it notes since they are never actually in the flat at the same time. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ here is my review
The Switch is another story by English author Beth O'Leary. It features the dynamic 79-year-old Eileen who lives in a little Yorkshire village and her granddaughter Leena. Leena is struggling with corporate London life and Eileen has decided to try dating again so they decide to swap homes for the summer with fun and unexpected results. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ here is my review
I recently finished The Daughter of Doctor Moreau. I've never read the original, so I'm not sure how it compares, but I really liked it. The twist, if you can even call it that, near the end wasn't very surprising, but I liked the main characters and I liked the ending so it gets a thumbs up from me.Currently reading:
ABC Murders
Severed Souls
The Republic of Pirates
I am trying to get through as much of Girl in Ice as I can today. I have it electronically through the library and they will be taking it back in just a few hours. I have a physical copy on hold that I can pick up if I still need to finish it.
I am also reading The Soulmate, but that will have to wait until this evening after Girl in Ice goes back.

The Travelling Cat Chronicles is a delightfully quirky book by Japanese author Hiro Arikawa which recounts the story of a young man, Saturo and his cat companion Nana, on a road trip through Japan. The cat has the perfect blend of wisdom and supercilious sarcasm you would imagine if a cat was to narrate and draws you into this enchanting and poignant story. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ here is my review
