Preston Orrick (prestonorrick) | 110 comments I am making a Word document for conversion to epub and mobi. In my document map, I have a Chapter Heading that has random white space on the left, and this shows up as being pushed over in my converted documents.

Here is an image, as you can see, the 'TWO' is pushed to the right for some reason, as well as the chapter break above it.

Is there any indication of a 'Tab' or other anomalous space having been inserted?

Preston Orrick (prestonorrick) | 110 comments Nope, it just seems like Word is doing whatever it feels like doing. Is there any way to align everything in the Document Map?? On a side note, the Document Map is an awful feature.

Is there any way in programs like Jutoh to convert the document to mobi or epub with no adherence to the Document Map? Maybe I can save the Word file as a PDF then convert to epub or mobi?

R.F.G. Cameron | 443 comments If you use a PDF converter like Cute PDF then Calibre to convert to epub or mobi it may ignore the map.

Preston Orrick (prestonorrick) | 110 comments Well, I didn't get around it. What I ended up doing is just centering the chapter title and the marks that were messed up in Jutoh itself. A bit of a pain, but at least I can convert now.

Lance Charnes (lcharnes) | 327 comments If you save your document as filtered HTML, it'll strip out a lot of the embedded Word formatting commands and give you a cleaner convert to either MOBI or ePub. Keep in mind that both ebook formats are just subsets of HTML, so it stands to reason an HTML-to-HTML conversion will work more predictably.

Another advantage: if something's going wrong, you can tweak the HTML source directly rather than try to figure out what Word feature is causing the problem.
