Britt, Book Habitue (britt--bookhabitue) | 767 comments The Collector's Daughter was shaping up to be a strong 5 stars but the ending felt a little....flat. Still a good book.

Started something with Comfort Me With Apples. Said something about it on our family group chat. I so wanted to discuss it, but I wasn't sure I wanted to recommend it so I said that on the chat asking if anyone else had read it. Apparently what I said intrigued them enough that 4 of them read it as well and another one might be reading it. It was a fun discussion. My sister-in-law showed her true intelligence by pointing out so many things the rest of us had missed.

Thanks for sharing that, Patty. Glad it made for an interesting discussion!

Mary | 43 comments I just came across this and I have already read a couple of these books.

I read The Patron Saint of Second Chances in the fall and thought it was fun (It could make a great movie).

I read No Cure for Being Human early last year and honestly don't remember much about it. I liked it but didn't love it.

I own a copy of The Stolen Lady that I won in a Goodreads giveaway. Maybe now I will finally get around to reading it.

Britt, Book Habitue (britt--bookhabitue) | 767 comments I'm finding it super interesting that Look What You Made Me Do and A Flicker in the Dark are both on here because they felt sooooo similar.
I definitely liked Flicker better.

Britt, Book Habitue (britt--bookhabitue) | 767 comments All Her Little Secrets.
Sigh. Another thriller? *whining*
Anyway. The plot wasn't terrible (though it stretched suspension of disbelief a smidge for me) but the main character just. keeps. making. horrible. decisions. over. and. over. again.

Britt, Book Habitue (britt--bookhabitue) | 767 comments Siren of Sussex gets 3 stars because it's not its fault I mistook it for a mystery. (Don't ask me why. I have no idea what I got it confused with.) Unfortunately this was a lot like nothing ruining your Friday like realizing it's actually Tuesday.
I rolled my eyes so hard I was concerned about brain injury.

lol about knocking it down. I haven't read it yet.

Are you actually typing the whole ist or copying/pasting it? if typing it then I'm impressed.

Britt, Book Habitue (britt--bookhabitue) | 767 comments Typing sadly. Because there's not an option to copy/paste in the app as far as I can tell.

Patty (scrapatty) | 160 comments Britt, Book Habitue wrote: "Typing sadly. Because there's not an option to copy/paste in the app as far as I can tell."

Ahh. That's too bad. Drives me nuts when apps do that.

Probably not worth it for Good Reads alone, but I have an OCR Text Scanner app that will read screenshots and turn them into text. I use it for a lot of things and it might work for this.

Ooh, I never use the goodreads app. I dislike it so much, and now there's another reason to dislike it. Can't copy/paste? Ridiculous.

Britt, Book Habitue (britt--bookhabitue) | 767 comments It's super convenient for rating a book and adding the date read and such but it's a pain for some things. it doesn't even automatically capitalize after a period. as you can tell since I'm not fixing it, lol.

Audrey (niceyackerman) | 674 comments I really liked Dead Silence; I think I was in the right mood for it. I don't think I was in the right mood for Patron Saint of Second Chances.

Yeah, mood is super important. Sometimes there are books that could potentially be right up my alley, but I'm not in the mood for that type of book right then. It's actually why I stopped using the Want To Read button in goodreads. Because I'd go, "Ooh, that sounds great, but I don't really want to read it now." And then I was left with giant overwhelming lists of books. So I just stopped doing it.

Ooh, frustrating.

Britt, Book Habitue (britt--bookhabitue) | 767 comments Mood is huge. I sometimes feel bad for not enjoying a book because I wasn't in the mood, lol.

My problem is most books sound at least vaguely interesting. *facepalm* We have brand new shelves and I'm organizing books and I have a crazy number of books I need to read to decide if they get shelf space or are leaving my house.

message 72: by Audrey (new)

Audrey (niceyackerman) | 674 comments I'm usually in the mood for about anything, so this was unusual for me.

message 73: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 255 comments I use the Want to Read list (more than 1000 at this point). Once in a while, I clean it out. For reading challenges, I look through the Lists and find the books already in my TBR. It's easiest on the computer, rather than mobile or app. I still have to be in the mood for the book, but it cuts down the seemingly infinite choices.

Not to mention, Dead Silence and Patron Saint of Second Chances are two very different moods. (Insert big, wide eyes emoji here). Glad you enjoyed Dead Silence, though! It's the best when our science fiction books get some love.

Audrey (niceyackerman) | 674 comments I prioritize the sci fi and fantasy nominations. :)

Britt, Book Habitue (britt--bookhabitue) | 767 comments I swear half the point of the "want to read" thing for me is so that in the future when I come across the book again and look it up I can tell that 1) I've seen it before and 2) yes it has looked interesting before, lol.

That's why I created a Maybe shelf; Want to Read is what I've committed to, and Maybe is less of a commitment for things that look interesting but I'm not sure I want to actually read.

Britt, Book Habitue (britt--bookhabitue) | 767 comments Dead Silence was more paranormal horror than I expected (I was just thinking sci-fi) but even though that's not my jam it wasn't bad.

I've been wondering: do audio narrators fix errors, like if the book is missing a word or uses the wrong word?

There's a funny story from Stephen Fry, who recorded the Harry Potter books in England, and he couldn't say, "He pocketed it." And asked if he could say, "He put it in his pocket." and was told no. They just had him try over and over and over until he got the phrase done. I'll see if I can find the link.

I saw that. Cute. I wish we could get his narration here; I don't like Jim Dale's very much.

Britt, Book Habitue (britt--bookhabitue) | 767 comments Reminds me of Benedict Cumberbatch's complete inability to say penguin, lol.

At Summer's End was not what I wanted it to be.... but if you like domestic drama and healing....and are not bothered by sex scenes and suicide attempts.....then you may enjoy this historical romance.
