Stephanie A-M (steph818) | 36 comments Greetings Fam. What does 2023 hold for you? Are you doing any cool reading challenges?
The DC library is doing a Toni Morrison Fiction book club where they read one selection per month, so I plan to incorporate that into my 100+ books for the year. I also want to try to read a few more YA fantasy books since it seems there have been quite a few really good series to have come out in the past couple of years.
Anyone have something dope they are doing? I want to have a little more fun with my reading in 2023.

Aurora (rubyemma775) | 65 comments I like the Toni Morrison challenge! Have you done any other author challenges? In 2023 I need to continue cleaning out my kindle and Audible selections, nothing fun yet! Fingers crossed and looking for suggestions!

message 3: by Beverlee (new)

Beverlee | 5 comments I like the Toni Morrison challenge! Usually I don’t do specific challenges aside from setting a specific number. I tend to start reading several books (about 5) at the same time and go from there. No rhyme or reason, just whatever interests me-I focus on Black women writers primarily.

Louise | 1 comments Toni Morrison challenge sounds interesting. I’ve about three of her books on my shelf, that I haven’t read yet. I’m a slower reader, so I only goal is to try to 26 books a year. I prefer nonfiction, however a good fiction story is a great escape for me.

I did the 20 Book by Black Women this past year...that's an easy one for me, so I will do that again...but I am still trying to spice things up a bit.

Bookwurm637 | 13 comments I want to read more black authors especially the classics. Toni Morrison, Alice Walker etc. But romance is my favorite genre so I also want to read more of black love.

Let me know if you wanna join me on my Morrison challenge this year.
Last year for Kwanzaa I gifted myself a set of Hurston's novels so I may consider doing all of her work as a challenge for myself this year as well. I am not a big romance fan....BUT I LOVE BLACK LOVE....so if there's a really rich storyline I can get behind it.

Dee (jadzia_dax) | 1 comments I usually start signing up for challenges in December so by January I have a plan for the entire year. The ones I'm participating in this year are 'Book riot's read harder challenge' 'ultimate popsugar reading challenge' 'Black girls read Too challenge 2023' 'The planets spell out'

message 12: by Brittany (new)

Brittany (wickedwitch) I want to finish off all the series I started last year and spend more time reading longer books. FYI I’m a Sci-fi, Fantasy,Thriller reader 💕

message 13: by Alvina (new)

Alvina (alvina05) | 11 comments I always say I’m doing a challenge and besides the one here (yearly reading goal) I don’t finish the others. So, I’m going to do just the Goodreads one (300 is my goal this year) and live my best reading life 😉.

Best of reading journeys to you all 🥰

message 14: by Mariah (new)

Mariah Sturdivant | 2 comments I would love to get through at least 30 books in 2023 and I would love to challenge myself to read outside of my genre.

message 15: by Christiona (new)

Christiona (christiona_darris) | 1 comments My goal for 2023 is 30 books. I joined a couple of interesting challenges on StoryGraph!

message 16: by Qiana (new)

Qiana Harris | 1 comments I am doing blackathon this year. This will be my first reading challenge. It’s a February reading challenge I found on YouTube. Bow ties and books has hosted this challenge for the past 5 years. My goal this year is to read more books across all genres. I am more of a contemporary reader.

So I’ve decided to my 2023 challenge is gonna be “ Step Outside The Genres “ or “ Genres with multitude “, can’t decided what to Call it. I just want to have more friends in this literary journey 🤞🏽👋🏽🫵🏾🤷🏽‍♀️

message 18: by bri (new)

bri michelle | 1 comments I gave myself a small goal - 24 books this year, but we’re in month 3 and I’m already on book number 7. Lol I’m in a book club at work where we do one book a month and once I finish that I try to squeeze in another book. I love Toni Morrison and wanna read more of her books so that DC challenge sounds like something I wanna get in on. Plus I read the first two books in the challenge already so I feel it’s meant to be!

message 19: by Kan’s (new)

Kan’s Reading Korner | 1 comments I wanted to start off small for this year because I didn’t complete my 2022 reading goal. So this year I set a goal to read at least 12 books, including at least 1 nonfiction. To add to my challenge I decided that I was going to read at least 3 series. So far I have started “Pretty Little Liars” and “The It Girl” series. FYI my genre of choice is usually urban fiction or youth adult fiction.

message 20: by Leandra (new)

Leandra Simone | 6 comments For those seeking romance or an Indie author, please consider my book, Dancing on the Edge of Moonlight.
Thank you- Leandra Simone 💕

message 21: by Philana (new)

Philana Dione | 1 comments Your goals are very impressive. I think if I can get 6 books in this year, I am going to feel very accomplished. I am excited to get back into reading more again.

message 22: by Miko (new)

Miko | 2 comments I love these challenge ideas. Pretty cool. I actually started the year off reading Toni Morrison's The Bluest Eye. Great read! My yearly goals are pretty modest in comparison to ya'll in the 100's! Trying to get like ya'll :). LOL. My annual reading goal is my age that year. This year is 41 books. I'm typically all over the place when reading and book choices at times will depend on my current mood.

I have added this to my list. Your book sounds interesting. Thank yoy for the recommendation!

message 24: by Kellea (new)

Kellea (ivywriter) | 2 comments My realistic reading goals for 2023 are to read at least 12 audiobooks (one per month, in the car, on the way to work and while walking), and to read hard copies of at least 1 cookbook/food memoir and/or poetry book each month. Also, I subscribe to alot of blogs and magazines and I am trying to make myself actually take more time to sit and read them.

message 25: by Shana (new)

Shana (brownetime08) | 57 comments I like the goal about the blogs. I also need to get back into reading the blogs I enjoy.

message 26: by Kiara Lazhae (new)

Kiara Lazhae | 3 comments If anyone enjoys reading blogs, I have one of my own. Feel free to check it out or give feedback. Here's the link: http://kkryptonite.com/

My reading challenge consists of 30 books, 3 of them being ebooks. My favorite genre right now is romance but I'm trying to keep it fresh by throwing other genres in the mix every once in a while.
