Stupot | 2 comments I recently completed an existential novel (90k) that summarizes my neurodivergent existential view of reality. It takes place over a day in three parts ("before" where it describes his friendship with the woman across the hall, a victim of an acid attack, "during" about his time at work, and "after" about his time out on the town that night) plus an epilogue, centred around an anonymous "everyman" in "any city" trying to find meaning in a "normal" that makes no sense. Some non-linear parts. It's my best attempt at Dostoevsky / Camus / Sartre, if anyone is into that sort of thing. It's called "Anomie" and tries to paint a picture of what that term means to me.

There's a small description of foreplay in one scene, expletives here and there, some stuff about psychotropic drugs, mental illness, and suicide. Existential philosophy, history, anti-capitalism, cultural critique. Serious book trying to stick its (tree)fingers into readers' brains. I have had feedback from a small group of friends that have all given me a lot of praise for the catharsis it offers when dealing with an absurd world, but would like to try to get a few more random individuals to have a look and tell me what they think. It is complete with original paintings from an indigenous Tuvan friend who kept on me to finish because she liked it so much. For that, I hope that this book can go somewhere and give her art some exposure also.

Planning on starting my next book. Pledging to try to write at least one book a year to give myself a creative outlet while I work, inspired by Anthony Burgess. I hold two different Masters degrees (long story) including one in philosophy, so I'm a pretty experienced writer, but this is my first attempt at fiction. Wrote the first part seven years ago, wrote the second part over a week in May as an outlet (long story), wrote the epilogue in July, and then chipped away at the third chapter over the past 4-5 months. Gone through several (personal) edits over the past month since I finished.

Would like to swap for something similarly neurodivergent / cerebral / cultural critique, but have read widely and will give a go to pretty much anything that's not too "happily ever after".

Thanks!

Mike Rembis (mikerembis) | 50 comments I will read this. Send me a link to yours. Here is a link to mine. https://betabooks.co/signup/book/3245gg
It is a first-person account of an unraveling mind. I would love to get the philosophical viewpoint.
Let me know.

Stupot | 2 comments I tried beta books but I've already PDF'd it and I don't really like the idea of breaking it apart. I've got it up on a random site that I put together (quickly and haphazardly) a number of months ago just to collect together some things that I had written. You can find it there (under Anomie).
