JB | 4 comments I can remember few things about this book — the main character was named Amaryllis, and she was in her late teens? She was living in a big mansion and there was something about falconry. It was a mystery with some romantic elements.

It was definitely not any of the romance books called Amaryllis (like the one by Jayne Castle). The romantic elements were more subtle and weren't the main part of the story.

Tab (tabbrown) | 5084 comments Do you remember what time period/location the story takes place?
Anything about the cover?
Any scifi/fantasy elements in the story?
Remember anything about the mystery: thief, murder, kidnapping, etc?
Part of a series?

JB | 4 comments Thanks, Tab. I don't remember the cover at all, and there were no sci-fi/fantasy elements in the story that I can recall. Not part of a series, I don't think. I think it took place in the mid-20th century? And as for the mystery itself, ummm — honestly, theft, murder and kidnapping all feel familiar. Maybe kidnapping and theft more than anything else.

I have a vague sense that the mystery was something that the main character (Amaryllis) was uncovering — not as in she was aware of it and trying to solve it, but that it was going on around her and she slowly became aware that all was not as it seemed.

And again, there was a main motif of falconry or some kind of bird of prey.

So appreciate your help! I have very dim hopes of ever uncovering this, and so so wish (like others I've seen posting on this forum) that libraries had digital records in my childhood so I could go back and find all the hidden gems I discovered on the shelves.

JB, are you still looking for this or did you find it?

I think it might have been Wings of the Falcon by Barbara Michaels, which fits except for the character name. So at this point I'm kind of guessing that I'm conflating that book and something else that had Amaryllis as a character name. Thanks for asking!

Do you want to call this "solved" then JB? Or move it to Possibly Solved until you are sure?

Yes, "solved" is fine, Ann. Many thanks!
