Kathryn | 361 comments It's a sad reason she had to join the cast, but is good to see her getting work!

"NEW YORK – NBC Universal is confirming that Lauren Graham has joined the cast of NBC's upcoming series "Parenthood."

Graham, best known from the longrunning "Gilmore Girls," steps into the "Parenthood" ensemble as a replacement for Maura Tierney (MOHR'-uh TEER'-nee). Tierney was forced to drop out of the series this summer after being diagnosed with breast cancer, for which she continues to get treatment.

Originally slotted for a fall premiere, "Parenthood" is now set to debut in early 2010. NBC said Monday that production begins in mid-November.

Also starring Craig T. Nelson, Bonnie Bedelia and Mae Whitman, the series is based on the 1989 movie that starred Steve Martin."

It's great that she's getting a new project. Is it a comedy?

message 3: by DJ (new)

DJ (djdivaofjava) Husbands eyes lit up when I told him she would be back on TV!!

DINI from what I remmber of the film I would think that it will most definately be a comedy!!!

Ann | 345 comments Well, at least they found a good actress to replace Tierney (hopefully she'll be well soon!). It will be fun to see Graham in a new role :)

Meghan I loved the movie. It'll be interesting to see how she takes to the show. This sounds more like her style.

message 6: by Catherine (new)

Catherine McKenzie Very excited about this. Now if only Luke can show up as her love interest.

Awe - if only! :)

Isabelle (madame_izab0u) | 8 comments Did anyone watch the first season? I did and altought I didn't looooove Lauren's character, I found the series and the interactions between the characters to be quite interesting.

Dottie (oxymoronid) | 698 comments Yes -- watched it last year and watched the opener of this year on Tuesday. It's grown on me -- and I'm looking forward to where the series may go this season.

message 12: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker I caught snippets of an episode once. And I think it's something I'd enjoy. What day/time is it? I know it's on NBC.

message 13: by Melissa (new)

Melissa (littlemel64) I'm not in love with the show, but the acting is wonderful. Strays a bit from the movie (brother is Adam, not Gil) but enjoyable none the less. I don't know when it's on because I watch it on Hulu. I subscribed so when a new episode has posted I get an email. Will be watching S2E1 this weekend.

10PM Tuesdays, NBC in Southern Calif. -- if that helps.

Joanie | 197 comments I watched this off an on last season and like it. It never occurred to me that the show was supposed to be based on the movie though-weird. I just assumed the name was the same but I guess there are some similarities.

message 16: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (vorvesm) | 19 comments I like the show. I don't love Lauren's character the most, there are more intriguing stories going on, usually, but I still like her. She seems to be playing a character that is more like herself than Lorelai was. If you've ever seen her on talk shows I think you'll know what I mean.

message 17: by Chaya (new)

Chaya (chayac) | 4 comments I really enjoy it, although in a totally different way than Gilmore Girls. It always cracks me up how Lauren Graham's character is like a parallel universe Lorelai Gilmore--like if Lorelai hadn't been able to make things work after having Rory but is still awesome except her kids are like GOD MOM YOU'RE SO ANNOYING instead of being, well, Rory.

message 18: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (vorvesm) | 19 comments Haha good point, Chaya!

message 19: by Jess (new)

Jess | 12 comments This show makes me happy. It it is pretty strange going from re-watching GG to watching an episode of Parenthood. She's not as put together or confident as Lorelai. Can I just say though, I hope I look that good when I'm in my 40's! Does anyone watch Six Feet Under? I'm re-watching that right now, and it's a similar weird going back and forth with Peter Krause.

message 20: by Jess (new)

Jess | 12 comments I really hope I'm not the only one who watches Six Feet Under or no one will understand this, but I just watched the finale again this morning (makes me sob every time), and then I watched last week's episode of Parenthood, and there's a scene where Adam is standing in the background, and my first thought was it was dead Nate watching them. I'm so glad Parenthood is back with new episodes!

message 21: by Joanie (new)

Joanie | 197 comments I loved Six Feet Under and LOVE Peter Krause! It's funny that his character is so different from one show to another. My friend said he and Lauren Graham are dating in real life. Has anyone else heard this? If so, go Lorelai!

message 22: by Jess (new)

Jess | 12 comments I believe they are. :)

message 23: by Liz (new)

Liz | 35 comments I believe Lauren Graham deserves her own show. My husband would watch Gilmore Girls with me because he loved the way she delivered her lines! I am sure the fact that she is appealing to the human eye had nothing to do with it! HA!

message 24: by Dottie (new)

Dottie (oxymoronid) | 698 comments Well, if LAuren Grham is dating him in real life -- good for them. she is going to have some fun in theu pcoming episode in that John Corbett (singer/actor) will be appearing as her ex-husband and father of her two kids in the show at least in that episode and perhaps in ensuing episodes or a recurring role at least. He was one of Sarah Jessica Parker's more serious love interests in Sex and the City andshould be an interesting foil for Lauren's character on Parenthood.
