I absolutely loved this part of the book. It was just like Matt to go back and take Rufus. It was definitely the right thing to do. I'm surprised Earl noticed so quickly that the dog was missing. He will need to find something new to kick around now.
I knew Matt was going to do something about Rufus when he was able to get it to heel and not hurt Bree. Rufus will have a much better life now. No I don't think he was concerned about the dog. He was concerned that someone 'took his property'. Yes, I think he wanted to accuse Bree of something. I really think he wanted Rufus to attack one of them when he let him loose preferably Bree
Matt totally did the right thing by saving Rufus. Animals are helpless and do not deserve to be abused. Earl couldn't care less about the dog.
Big yay for Matt in rescuing Rufus, who was, at best, a tool and an afterthought for Earl. It was despicable that he turned the dog loose on Bree. Of course, he confronted Bree about him not because he missed the dog but just assumed she’d get retribution in a way he would.
No, Earl won’t even look back about Rufus.
