First, I was not expecting Redolfo to be a changeling. That he might still be out there, changes so much.
Running into the empress like that is really dangerous. Especially since Amadea has been seeing the consort behind her back... Walking on very thing ice. I wonder what kind of lies the empress has been told though. Is it just about that night? About her husband? About Amadea?
Richa has a lot of questions that I was not thinking about. At this point my guess of the shrike is Sigeittrice or some how the guard. There has to be something up with that hug... A slipped piece of paper or something.
Poor Yinii is having a really rough day... Being told she will be sent home, the person she trust the most has been hiding a secret, and someone who she praises trying to take sand out of her bones.
Have some backstory on Quill's family (ish... Something is bugging me. I reread something that should have came up with nothing, but it had exactly what I was looking for, but said the opposite of what I thought... That there was anything there is bugging me though.). He really doesn't seem like his current job is the best fit, although I assume it has a lot of prestige, and his family probably wants that.
Amadea and the prince are really pushing the envelope of being seen together. Once those rumors start to fly you can't just put it all away again.
End of chapter 12 had me curse because I had to stop reading to talk in these threads. Quill is now possibly a sleeper agent. I'm hoping to see what the specialist can do besides just reading objects. Although, we still have a lot of the book left, and things are already ramping up very quickly.

The chapel of the skeleton saints was a neat mix of beauty and ghoulish creepiness. The detail about how a saint's flesh falls from their bones was interesting, and it's so neat to see how the Orozhandi came to revere these magic users when other cultures, at best, used them as weapons. I get the feeling that there might be other cases where sorcerers are simply ostracized.
There are so many ways this story can go now. We have Redolfo a changeling, apparently, which means at least one made it beyond the wall. And if there's one, there could be countless more. Poor Quill is in the hands of the bad'duns, and can't be relied on now that he is poisoned. Yinii is set up to play a central role in whatever happens next...and I can't help but wonder if the parallels between she and St. Asla, not to mention the void of experience with ink among her people, foreshadow a grand, but perhaps tragic end for her. Will she ascend to be the first saint of ink among the Orozhandi? Can someone even do that? If nothing else, good on her for taking down Chiarl before the Shirke stopped her.
We seemingly know the Shrike now, right? The fact that Chiarl was there in the last scene of this section cements that she is indeed Rosangerda Maschano. But who is her accomplice? It's not her son...he's far too poised. Is he a changeling? His impersonation of Ibramo seems too imperfect, so I doubt it. But who is it, then?
Who is the masked man who has been following Quill around if it's not the consort prince? And who was the mysterious woman behind the attacks who the Reza saw with her dark sight? We have more questions than answers right now, and maybe feel even further from the truth as the mystery grows deeper...
