This book chronicles the evolution of women's fitness culture from around the 1940s to present. It focuses on several specific and iconic fitness trends, from early fitness pioneers to barre to jogging to aerobic dance to yoga (and more!), and on specific women who were instrumental to the development and popularization of these forms of exercise.
I really, really enjoyed this book and learned a lot from it. I found it really fascinating to get a kind of overview of some eighty-plus years of fitness culture, and I found it really interesting to learn about the business of fitness and how fitness trends have evolved over time. I also thought that the broader discussion of views of body image and femininity over this time period was really interesting.
I listened to the audiobook and thought the narrator did a great job!
