You're welcome! Yes! Keep us posted! Run with whatever idea it is, I'm sure it's great!

Kandice | 360 comments Jonathan, I just want to really thank you for engaging with us here. I am always more "star struck" with authors or illustrators than with actors, and am often disappointed, but you are such a gem! You've really given us the time and so much effort to be involved in this discussion. It means a lot to a lot of us.

Char | 17472 comments I second Kandice!

Jonathan, you really know how to make us feel special and you always seem to be so upbeat. Many of us know how hard you work, between your writing, your job and your family. For you to carve out some of your precious time to be here with us, it means a LOT!

Michael J. (michaeljclarke) | 638 comments I'm loving the dysfunctional family with the dueling sisters and brother and the constant insults and comments. Another difference. A standard gothic with special seasoning.
Another ominous surprise awaits at the end of Chapter 10. I finished that chapter earlier this morning.

That's so kind of you, Kandice! I'm genuinely enjoying being here and spending time with you all. Thank you for being awesome!

Sarah ♡ (let’s interact!) (bookishwelshie) | 80 comments Hi all! Just downloaded this and am going to read some before bed. Gothic horror is always best read in the winter, I find! :)

message 208: by Gareth (new) - rated it 3 stars

Gareth Is Haunted (garethj1979) | 64 comments I started this last night. I'm not usually such a fan of gothic horror so I'm hoping this can change me mind.

Michael J. (michaeljclarke) | 638 comments Just finished reading Part Two.
I have to say this is nothing like the other gothic novels I have read.
If more of them were as engrossing as this, I would definitely read more gothic horror.

Fantastic! That world is such a fun one for me. Bleak, but rife with possibilities. I've been thinking a lot of doing a third one.

I started this earlier this week and had planned on reading it in one go this weekend but my niece came over and she doesn’t stop talking long enough to breathe, let alone read. 😑
I really like what I’ve read of it so far.

Kandice | 360 comments My son usually comes to stay with us on the weekends, and despite being 29, he also doesn't seem to need to take breath breaks! And he has ADHD so ends up dragging me on all his excursions! It's fun, but I end up tired and don't read.

Latasha (latasha513) | 11983 comments Mod
wow, that dinner party took a turn I didn't expect! I was thinking, these people fight so much! i got to read a big chunk, I'm around 60% or so.

Cal | 96 comments Just finished the book this morning. What an absolutely fun ride. It was a pleasure finding out about J Janz through this discussion, and once again thank you so much Jonathan for joining us! It has been so awesome seeing you interact with everyone. I really enjoyed your answer to the question of possible inspirations for this book. Definitely looking forward to reading Dust Devils as well as the Siren one (can’t remember the name😩). Keep up the awesome work brotha. Also, is there anywhere I can buy signed copies of those two??

Netanella | 575 comments This is my first Jonathan Janz book, so I'm excited to be reading this with y'all. I just started last night.

I love the title and the old school feel to the cover art. It reminded me of Victoria Holt novels of the 1970s.

I've made it to Part II - Castle Magnus. I am really enjoying the writing style, which seems to blend the old fashioned feel of a late 19th century novel while at the same time being using more modern structures in the dialogue.

Good stuff so far!

If that's the part I think it is...yeah. It's awful. Undeniably, deeply awful.
