You're right, sometime the formatting can be awful. I can't remember which book it was where it happened to me. Could have been The Crooked House but there was no distinction between chapters, who was talking when. It was hard work. Most of the time the books are fine but sometimes the odd badly formatted ones slip through.

message 252: by DianeAlice (new)

DianeAlice | 142 comments Yes, it does sometimes say it's an unedited version when you request it but of course when you come to read it you've forgotten that lol!

Sandysbookaday (taking a midwinter break) (sandyj21) | 5101 comments Yes there are a lot of formatting problems with the Netgalley books, but I just overlook it and concentrate on the story.
But, a while ago one of you NetGalley reviewers posted on another thread (sorry can't remember which one) that you had a book for review which was just absolutely terrible and you couldn't finish.
I think I have the same one.....like to PM me and see if it is?

message 254: by [deleted user] (new)

I don't take any notice of spelling, grammar mistakes etc, and I've never received an eBook that the format is so bad you can't make head to toe of it. So I'm not complaint, grammatical mistakes will be corrected before the publish date, and at the end of the day we are lucky enough to read that authors work for free!

Woohoo!

That's my weekend sorted!

message 257: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments Kim, that is awesome! I'm going to request it too.

message 258: by DianeAlice (new)

DianeAlice | 142 comments Kim, I've just got that one too! Very excited, wasn't really expecting to get it.

message 259: by [deleted user] (new)

Nice one DA! :)
Go for it Chris, fingers crossed you get it!

message 260: by [deleted user] (new)

Guys please take note.
I've just started Little black lies by Sharon Bolton, and after reading for a while I realised something wasn't right. It went straight from the contents to the last final chapters without me realising... so I've actually read the ending..

Don't know if this is just my copy, but I'm going to write to the publisher and let them know.

I'm so disappointed.

message 261: by [deleted user] (new)

If anyone else gets this just check first, the formatting is completely messed up.

:(((((

Oh, Kim, I am so sorry that happened to you. So disappointing I am sure is an understatement. Many thanks for the heads up though. To report this--maybe use that feedback box that goes directly to the publisher?

message 263: by Patricia (new)

Patricia | 1266 comments Wondering if Netgalley is having a problem. I received Eeny Meeny and it was a mess. I emailed but no response.

message 264: by DianeAlice (new)

DianeAlice | 142 comments I had the same problem with After We Fall, complete muddled mess. I'll have a look at my copy of Sharon Boltons book and see if its the same as yours Kim, thanks for the warning : (

DA, do you think that was the main reason you didn't like that read?

Sandysbookaday (taking a midwinter break) (sandyj21) | 5101 comments Am reading The Color of Secrets from Netgalley and the formatting is fine. Also a really good read! 8:D

message 267: by [deleted user] (new)

Chris, I sent them a note on Netgalley, I apologised I couldn't review it now properly, and made them aware that my copy was a mess. We'll see if they get back to me. :(

message 269: by DianeAlice (new)

DianeAlice | 142 comments Chris, yes that was the reason I didn't like the book, it didn't make any sense at all.
Kim, I checked my copy of the Sharon Bolton book and it all seems to be there. Perhaps they could try sending you another copy.

message 270: by [deleted user] (new)

I was going to DA but then I thought, I already know the ending, I know who did it. Feel as though it's really been spoilt. :(

I've just been approved Sharon Bolton's latest Little Black Lies. In my email they've it's been highlighted that the publishers want an review, but they've also mentioned that it is an early copy of the book so it won't be without faults. That all the errors will be fixed before final editions.

message 285: by Patricia (new)

Patricia | 1266 comments Well, I commented that a book I got was badly formatted and others in the list said the same thing - Kimberly and DianeAlice. I emailed but never heard anything from Netgalley. Wondered if others might have.

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments I got turned down for The Ice Twins. My approval to review ratio is 100% except for the book I am currently reading. That hurt!! I really wanted to read that one.

Sometimes, Christine it's about numbers. All publishers have their own reasons. Don't take it personally. I get turned down for stuff.

As I said before the email for Little Black Lies specifically mentioned the formatting, that it's an early edition. I've noticed in the blurb of others they're also mentioning that the books are uncorrected proofs.

Not all calibre of books are great on Netgalley, that's obvious. The good stuff can be hard to get approval on.

Still waiting to hear about this one, Christine. I just went and ordered:

The Stranger by Harlan Coben because I want to read this book.

I just remembered, Christine, I got turned down for The Ice Twins. I got it from another source. Personally, I don't think you're missing much. Was a disappointment for me.

I was happy getting one for 77cents and the other for 1 cent, the difference is the shipping.

Christine,

30 books, done reviews on 2 !!

But as Janet says, don't panic.

My Silent Scream was a net galley review.

Reading a Book Bub just received called The Stolen Dog

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments OK, I just got rejected forThe Euthanist. The Euthanist by Alex Dolan . Alex Dolan.

To add insult to injury, it only has 8 ratings on Goodreads and 5 reviews on Goodreads! AND in the rejection letter they said they wanted to make sure their book got into the right hands! OWEY! So I bit the bullet and upgraded my profile. Will see what happens now. Fingers crossed.

message 298: by Patricia (new)

Patricia | 1266 comments I didn't get that one either Chris. I figure if we both got turned down that is their loss!

I did get The Bones of You The Bones of You by Debbie Howells by Debbie Howells

message 299: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments Yes, Pat, I wonder what they are looking for? The ironic thing is that the author "liked" my marking it as to-read.

message 300: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments I sneaked a peek at some of the comments on a Net Galley fan group, and there are people with 60-100 net galley books on their shelves TO READ, and they are still getting approvals, even with approval/review ratios of under 50%. One of them had a ratio of under 20% and said she was rarely turned down. The whole net galley thing is a mystery to me. Oh, another one said she thinks the most important factor is having a blog.
