NetGalley Books ... Just Had Approved
Was approved for
. It's book 3, so I decided to read first two first. Finished
earlier today. 4.5 stars, next is
. Then I can read the one above but....Around that read, I've read
and working on
now. So Reapers tomorrow then! Assuming I can stay on track and not randomly skip around again.
MMMMMM: I thought the predators and reapers books were nature books for kids. Silly me. Dang, you got more skillets on the fire than Carter's got little liver pills. The latest book I'm tackling is due for a review . . . last November. Not my fault. They just put it on NG, so must need some reviews. It's really WEIRD. It's written like a normal first person story, but the oddest things keep happening. It's got a lot of people with halitosis, and um, Jewish vampires.

Actually your books sounds interesting but tell me how can you tell what type of vampire they are!!!!
Lol Zip! Plenty of GOOD vampire stories out there. I want to know which one too!and was it from Grove/Atlantic? Requesting one of their new titles today finally got 2 old ones kicked free and approved as well.

Megalion, I draw the line at zombies and vampires. They are ALL yours, lol!!
Jean wrote: "Sue, looking forward to your take on Dugoni's book."Thanks Jean. Looking forward to reading it.
Christine wrote: "Megalion, I draw the line at zombies and vampires. They are ALL yours, lol!! "Oh poo... some aren't even really vampire. At least two series are interpretations of Christian mythology around Jesus/angels/God's soldiers. One trilogy has nothing to do with blood drinking so kinda not fair to even call them vampires. But ok....
Sue wrote: "Just approved for In the Clearing
by Robert Dugoni."Yeah, what Christine said. I really like Dugong, too. And I just love Tracy Crosswhite.
IT's been a long time since I have been on NetGalley to request anything. But one of my favorite authors has a book on there and I made the request and felt lucky to have gotten approved.
Question: I'm relatively new to NetGalley, and I've tried to keep the to-read books on my shelf at two or three (and failed miserably; at the moment, there are 8 ready and waiting that I just couldn't resist asking for or that publishers offered to me directly). Does it matter how long you keep a freebie before reviewing it? Any other advice on how you handle requests (other than just say no...)
Christine wrote: "Diane, this book has been around. Why is it on Net Galley, I wonder?"Don't know, Christine. Maybe it has just been released in the states?
Christine wrote: "Diane, this book has been around. Why is it on Net Galley, I wonder?"I don't know either, but I've seen several that apparently are being re-released as "updated" versions well after the fact. Maybe they didn't do all that well on the first go-round, or maybe there was no ebook option at that time.
Monnie wrote: "Question: I'm relatively new to NetGalley, and I've tried to keep the to-read books on my shelf at two or three (and failed miserably; at the moment, there are 8 ready and waiting that I just could..."Hi Monnie-As long as you have downloaded them before they archive you can read/rate them at your leisure. Keep in mind the reason for the ARC's is to create some 'buzz' as close to the publish date as possible, so I do always try to get my reviews done prior to that date. And not sure what you mean about handling requests-if you are referring to requests you send to a publisher, I don't think there is anyone in here who hasn't received a bunch of rejections! If you are referring to those that publishers or authors send to you, absolutely accept or decline as you see fit. I have received offers to read many books outside my genre, and I know I could never do the author justice if I tried to read and review. I stick to what I know will hold my interest. :)
Thanks, Jan - yes, I was referring to publishers/authors who contact me. And like you, if it's not the kind of book I enjoy, I certainly don't take them up on the offer. If it is, though, I guess I feel I should say yes or else they'll stop sending them to me. And also yes, I try to get my reviews in before the release date unless the publisher prohibits it (which has been the case a couple of times). What you've said means I'm on the right track, I think!
I was wondering about books that have been previously released--and not the reprints from the 1930s like Flowering Death--but like this one I got a day ago and when I looked at a review, it was written in 2013.In the Shadow of David
I did see some mention of a motion picture and possible sequel in the inflammatory notes, er introductory notes, so I'm thinking maybe they want to make a bigger splash.

Daisy, I believe that means Net Galley has chosen your review to feature for that book. If you get, I think, 4 of those, you get a Top Reviewers badge. DId I get that right, people?

I hit a string of books by favorite authors (Baldacci, Sandford, etc.) and let the freebies slide. Now, the 8 on my shelf seem overwhelming. Oh well, I'll start plowing through - started one this morning, in fact. I'm pretty sure the publishers will accept the reviews just about any time - I was mostly concerned that they'd stop offering/approving books if I failed to make a timely turnaround.

Congratulations!! Have you seen Amazon's "read and review" lists? The free-for-review option also is showing up in free/low-cost books lists like BookBub. Methinks they want to get in on the action. Interesting!
ChoosyBookworm is one; at the top of the page, click on the link to FREE ebooks to read and review. BookBub has free and low-cost books, as does Freebooksifter. Amazon has a Kindle First program where you can read books a few days before they're released for $1.99 each - at least a couple of dollars less than the release price (sometimes more). Now that I look more closely, the Amazon thing seems to be nothing more than that the Goodreads Giveaway program now includes instant download of ebooks from Amazon (not surprising since Amazon owns Goodreads, of course). I got that in an email from Goodreads a day or so ago and apparently misunderstood. NetGalley still gets my vote.

Yes, Sean, I read and loved the three books that precede Play Dead.
