I won All Is Not Forgotten on here. That is a good book. I hope you get it. I kept getting rejected on NetGalley at first so I went with less known authors and publishers and now they email to let me know they have books I can review.

Jen | 48 comments Just been approved for Don't You Cry by Mary Kubica. Seriously need to get my reading head back on as now back to seven to read and review.

This weekend is all about Charlie Parker for me though so no Net Galley books until I've finished A Time of Torment.

Thanks Paula. I`m going to start it as soon as I finish my current read, which should be done by the weekend.

Can I ask a question seeing as this will be my first "netgalley" read? Is it the done thing to leave a review on their site as well as here?

It is best practice, yes. All I do is write my review here and copy it along to Net Galley along with the link to Good Reads. Worked so far

Yes I use the same review here and copy and paste it on NetGalley and Amazon when I am able. You usually have to wait until the book has been released to post on Amazon.

message 2022: by Zippergirl (new)

Zippergirl | 86 comments Yay Adrian.

Yes, after consulting with the review godz and goddessez here, I started writing it at GR, as the text editor is more user friendly. Then open a tab to NG and paste the review and link there.

But if I am writing a complicated or longer review, I've been using Wordpad. I had my browser lock up a few times while I was *thinking* and lost my work.

I'm in a lull, not many books I wanted to request this past week or so. Whew. Lets me catch up on a couple other books I want to read and review.

message 2023: by Jean (new)

Jean | 2382 comments Way to go, Adrian!
My shelf count stands at ZERO. I've been trying to whittle down my "to read" shelf by actually reading a few before I add too many more!

message 2024: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments I am cutting my to-read shelf by out and out dumping 5 books a day off the mountain. There is no way I can read 2400 books over the rest of my life, so MUST make the list more manageable. It's kind of fun actually. Goal is to continue for a year. I started about 2 weeks ago and am averaging a lot more than 5 per day so far.

Diane, go for a Bookouture book. They are usually friendly to new folks and have a lot of really good authors. See How They Run by Tom Bale is a wonderful Bookouture book.

Was not going to request any books till I saw Sharon Bolton on here, see what happens, I could nor resist a couple of tries.

Approved my first by this author

Extreme Prey (Lucas Davenport, #26) by John Sandford

Requested from our own member authors David Harrison, better known as Tom Bale

See How They Run by Tom Bale

As I really enjoyed his book, and recommended his book The Catch

I did the same thing recently, too, Christine. I'd have to live as old as Moses in order to read all those books! It's still a big number but no longer in the nose bleed section. Ha!

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments How many did you slash, Linda?

message 2033: by Linda (new)

Linda | 13 comments Christine wrote: "How many did you slash, Linda?"

Over 500 books. Took me a while, Christine. Like chippin' off ice cubes from an iceberg. My iceberg still could sink the Titanic, though. I now hesitate when adding new books. They have to pass the "ice cube" test in the deep freeze!

message 2034: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments Wow, that is very impressive, Linda. I am at at least 100 and counting fast. I'm reviewing the blurbs and reviews (especially those of my friends) of each one.

message 2036: by Sue (new)

Sue (coccotoro) | 2087 comments I only add books to my to-read shelf only if I have won them downloaded free from NetGalley or other site or bought them. For example I don't add every book to my to -read shelf for every book I enter to win under the Giveaway Contest. I only add it if I win it. That way, the number of my books is:
All -1,222
Read -624
Currently reading-1
To-Read-597 (MY TOTAL BOOKS TO-READ)

message 2037: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments That is a very reasonable number on the to-read shelf, Sue. My goal is about that. Thanks for sharing your numbers!

Thanks Christine. I am getting more fussy about what I select to download, even if it is free. I have enough in my pile to read!

message 2043: by Adrian (new)

Adrian Dooley (adox66) | 246 comments Sorry guys, I have one more question. Do you share your reviews of books you have read from other sources on net galley or just the ones you have acquired there?

message 2044: by Sue (new)

Sue (coccotoro) | 2087 comments I share my reviews with everyone. If I am approved for a book on NetGalley, I always post my review on Goodreads and the copy and paste it to NetGalley and Amazon if able to.

message 2045: by Zippergirl (new)

Zippergirl | 86 comments No, Adrian, you can only give feedback on the books you've gotten from NG.

message 2046: by Janet , Moderator (new)

Janet | 5302 comments Mod
NetGalley just want you to review the books acquired from there. Once you've read your title, write a review, click on your book title and go to 'give feedback'. Give a star rating and you can paste your review in the review section. I usually start by saying where I'm posting my review then I paste in my actual review rather than linking and then I give a couple of notes in the 'notes to publisher' box and that's it. I've been doing that all along and it's worked for me. Just bear in mind what the publisher says in the email sent to you ie when you're able to post to Amazon. I'm now having to keep notes on publisher dates so I remember to post my review when able. Most publishers are looking for reviews on Amazon.
