NetGalley Books ... Just Had Approved

Thanks Pia. I will check it out."
Got it.

Wonder where my post went. Did I get the boot?"
I saw your blank comment box too DJ-must have been an error as I doubt it was a boot unless you were swearing at everyone LOL

Yes you get an email either way. They either tell you that you got the book please tell us your thoughts or you didn't meet our criteria blah blah blah

Yes you get an email saying you were accepted and now you can download it or you have been denied... Sometime this email comes right away and sometimes within a week or even longer.

That is also true, Pia and Adrian. It has happened to me before.
I haven't booted anything, so it wasn't me. I would say if I'm unhappy with anything. :) Probably a GR glitch.

I thought I got censored because I posted a couple quotes from a DNF book. &$*#^@&$@(#& Actually they won't let you post an empty box, so something went wonky
OK got the thumbs down on:
Blood Wedding
Magruder's Curiosity Cabinet
Two thumbs up on:

Just requested Blood Wedding and also got The Anonymous Man

Can you write 300 page bio on yourself LOL. Seriously I think these publishers like to play games with their reviewers.

I've had my eye on the Alphabet Everywhere...I'll keep an eye open for your review!

6 declined. All different publishers.
5 approved. One review written. Doing a second review and reading a 3rd book.
4 pending.
Is this similar to your Net Galley experiences. They are ALL different publishers.

Sounds familiar. I've been rejected twice by a publisher I'd previously been approved for. Didn't think the review was that bad lol. I think it is sometimes just a question of having too many requests for number of ARCs available and also your review history. My approvals more consistent when I'd written more reviews. I've had 21 approvals now since end of Feb and got through 13.7 of them (nearly finished the 14th). Made sure I've fed back on them all and my reviews generally are not short (check my profile lol)
Just been approved for Die of Shame by Mark Bilingham. Email acceptance was along the lines of only normally send this to professional reviewers but please sign up for newsletter and leave us a review and enjoy the book. I'll take that
Jen
I've just had a look at my stats. I've been a NetGalley member now for two years. I've had 98 approvals, 20 declines and given feedback on 77. In the early days I got a few 'read now' which I soon realised were self published books that I didn't actually want to read that much. You live and learn! I've got 10 books now on my shelf, out of those 9 are definite 'want to' reads. I won't request anything now unless I really, really want to read it. Don't need the stress!
I was approved today The Second Chance Shoe Shop
The main reason for selecting this was that I know Mel Sherratt and her crime novels and am interested in her foray into 'chick lit', a genre I've read a few times in the past.

I requested my first books A year ago. Have been approved for 93, have reviewed 81.
With that said, I think the biggest thing that comes into play for certain publishers (mostly the bigger ones) is having a good profile filled out. If you don't have a blog (which I don't) make sure you have your Goodreads page listed as well as a link to your Amazon account. The more info, the better.
But after that, other things come into play beyond our control, like they might only have a certain amount to give out. I also heard that sometimes they hold out for bloggers to request the books first, so there may be a delay in hearing back. There are so many variables, so when in doubt, just request! I've been pleasantly surprised many times :)
Janet- I just read a strong review about the book you just got. I'm on the fence about it myself.

Which is why I didn't go mad by downloading/buying all the books written so far. I know I'm anal about reading in order (I know, am such a saddo!) but I thought I'd give this one a try when I saw it was on NetGalley.
Looking at my 'declines' it's definitely a mixed bag of publishers, I've had approvals from almost all of them bar a couple, I think.

Janet, I'm not sure what a saddo is, but I don't think you are one! ;)
We all need our own system that works for us, or we'd all be out of control. There are so many books I would have already requested if I didn't give myself a boundary. I use the 80% badge as my gauge....the further away I get from that number, I get to go shopping!

Janet you are definitely NOT a 'saddo'.....
I have 211 approvals, and sent feedback on 97 so far. 137 declines mainly from Harlequin, Penguin, St Martins and Random House. *:D

Sandy, to get your "declined" record, hit "profile" button then hit "activity". See dropdown menu on right. Pick "declined".
I've pre-ordered Marcie Steel's The second chance shoe shop. I already have several Netgalley books to review so at £1.99 I thought I'd buy it and save it for my holiday in July to read.

Just had this. Yay!"
Wow, Kim! Hope people from US can get this. *sprinting to look!!!

I loved that book. Still like the girl law firm books more.
Welcome to our new Net Galley friends and members
I am not meant to be looking on here, with plenty to choose from with 64-65 books to bring down on my to read Net Galley books.
But you are all tempting me to be naughty...LOL
my next book will be a Net Galley and a sequel to my last book Dead Eye, now reading Back Blast by Mark Greaney.

Nice one Janet! I'm reading it now and it's fantastic as expected!

Both requested n April 5th and both still pending. I have no history on my account there so am expecting rejection from both but felt I had to dip my toe in the water.

Everyone has to start somewhere. If you like a bit of a paranormal twist to your thrillers, you could try 'The Silent Twin' with Bookouture. They're usually pretty good at accepting, even newbies like us.

Daisy in Chains

@Janet and Kimberley: Would one of you consider adopting me so I could live in the UK and get to read Daisy in Chains too?
Soon as I saw Sharon Bolton name I was straight on Net Galley, too late is has gone !
But for all you members Dave Edlunds book is on to request in the thrillers, our readalong later this summer.
