When you are checking for a book make sure that you are looking in Net Galley and not the titles you have.

Really have to watch that green button

Todd Simpson (toddgazelle) | 11 comments Hi fellow readers, firstly I've really enjoyed reading all of your comments. What a great group. For a book enthusiasts, this really is heaven. I've been auto approved by 3 publishers, and I have Authors approach me directly asking me to read their book. It's hard to understand how avid readers that we all are get declined by certain publishers to read books in Netgalley. oh well, luckily there are plenty that approve us. Thank for letting me join your group.

a lot of people get rejected because they don't answer the publisher's criteria. i.e. i live in the Uk, and before i had a staggering 90% feedback rate :P US publishers would reject me, as they deem my feedback irrelevant to their target market...

Having said that - when it comes to previewing my thriller, i don't reject anyone. so if anyone is interested .. feel free to message/befriend me. won't push here any promos :)

Jen | 48 comments Just got a new approval today (I know I'm naughty as still have four to finish yet and some of my own books to read). I do feel a lucky bunny though as didn't expect to get approval as I don't have my own blog or such.

Starting to feel like a proper reviewist now ;o)

I don't see myself as a reader anymore. I am a 'Written Arts Funding and Support Facilitator' I.e. I buy, read, review and retweet books.

Lansdale's Hap and Leonard by Joe R. Lansdale . I am down to 14 on my NetGalley addiction list. Hmmm .... See How They Run by Tom Bale See How They Run by Tom Bale looks pretty good. Dab Nab you all. I have a whole tack of others also. Oh, well.

That's what I mean. I didn't get Redemption Road but I'm pretty sure they've approved me a few times before. I can only assume they've ran out of copies or my face didn't fit this month!! Hehe! :-D

It's fine really, it's not like I haven't got a mountainous pile that can now be spotted from another galaxy!! :-\

You know you can go to the "Activity" section of your NG profile to get a list of your rejections and who the publishers are, right Janet?

message 1918: by Janet , Moderator (new)

Janet | 5303 comments Mod
Yes, I did know that, Chris, no worries there. I may have a quick gander if I remember next time I go on. Unless auto approved no book is guaranteed. Whatever I get are like presents! :)

Diane S ☔ | 2077 comments Doubleday and Ecco are the two publishers I have trouble with. I am auto approved for St, Martins.

message 1923: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments Geez, Diane, if they deny you, who the heck do they approve???

Sandysbookaday (taking a step back for a while) (sandyj21) | 5105 comments Diane S ☔ wrote: "Doubleday and Ecco are the two publishers I have trouble with. I am auto approved for St, Martins."

I have trouble with St Martins! They used to approve me, but now they don't......maybe I gave one of their books a bad review. I really can't remember. Penguin also auto-refuses me. I don't think I have ever had an approval from them. But I keep trying!

message 1925: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments Auto-refuse! LOL, Sandy!

message 1926: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments Speaking of Penguin, I see they now have the latest Alex Marwood on offer. If they approve anyone, that is.

Which one, Chris, The Darkest Secret?

message 1928: by Cameron (new)

Cameron Wiggins | 369 comments Christine wrote: "Auto-refuse! LOL, Sandy!"

I think that long ago when I was single that I was auto-refused on several requests. Denial is part of the on-going trial and quest, though, isn't it?

message 1931: by [deleted user] (new)

I am always auto-refused from Simon & Schuster. They really don't like me. Lol!

message 1932: by [deleted user] (new)

I am mostly approved for Penguin but I had a random one the other day from them declining a request, and it's a particularly long-winded, important email explaining all the critical requirements they need from me, to the tiniest detail about me, a blog, page views of a blog, 300 page detailed profile on me. (Ok I'm being sarcastic now)
I just thought ok, just keep your book then. Really, it's not worth it.

message 1933: by Janet , Moderator (new)

Janet | 5303 comments Mod
It is bizarre. The St Martins one was we prefer US Canada requests because we're based there and I don't fit their market?!! Guess they don't want to sell in the UK then??!!! The reasonings are bizarre at times. Orion never approves me and the books I really want I go and buy anyways.

Kimberley, did you request Blood Wedding by Lemaitre? I saw it yesterday and requested, got approval this morning. Thanks for the recommendation btw. The cover is gorgeous. :)

message 1935: by [deleted user] (new)

Approved for Sleep Sister by Laura Elliot

Blood Wedding by Pierre Lemaitre

Girls on Fire by Robin Wasserman

Don't You Cry by Mary Kubica

message 1936: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes Janet, got it this morning too! :-) Great cover, can't wait to start that. Not sure whether to wait on the one for a while... Not published until September.

message 1937: by Todd (new)

Todd Simpson (toddgazelle) | 11 comments That's funny Kimberley I agree. Not sure what some of these publisher's are thinking. I got declined by Atria Books the other day because I don't live in the US. So this is the first declined book I've had where I decided to send them a reply back. I said if you let me read the book, I'll put a review on Amazon US, Apple and Powells. Well I have to say that didn't work, I haven't heard back from them. Guess that's a no then.

message 1938: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh my bad Janet, Amazon says July release date.

message 1939: by [deleted user] (new)

Worth a try Todd! I think they Netgalley process is a random one! Or they're only allowed to hand out a certain amount and then decline everyone else.

What a great stash Kimberley, I'm so jealous! There are some great books coming out of the UK that I can't get my hands on through NG, and you just got 3 of them. Maybe it's a blessing in disguise though...someone has to tell me NO!

Adrian Dooley (adox66) | 246 comments Ive just joined NetGalley. No idea if I will be successful in any of my future requests as I`m a fairly new regular reader so we shall see.
I`ve tried to review anything I have read this year on this site.

Anyway Ive decided to get the ball rolling with a read now option, mentioned a couple of posts back:

DARK HOUSES a gripping detective thriller full of suspense by Helen H. Durrant

Havent read the first novel so hopefully works as a stand alone.

Good approach, Adrian. Once you've got a couple of reviews / feedbacks under your belt, you're away. We all started somewhere!

Feel free to ask / discuss anything here and enjoy your NetGalley read. It's a series I haven't dived into yet.
