Jan | 258 comments I'm in! Should we start to narrow down a time frame? First week in February enough time for everyone to fit it in?

Should be ok for me. :)

Diane Lynch (dianedesmarrstlynch) | 306 comments I could be in on that Buddy read. I requested it. Girl on Ice.

And there's a good chance you'll get it, Diane. Fingers crossed! Hopefully you'll find out soon. :)

Sandysbookaday (taking a midwinter break) (sandyj21) | 5101 comments Janet wrote: "Hopefully, Pia. There's a bunch of us that have this now so a big buddy read read would be good! :)"

I have never done a buddy read before...what is involved?

message 1656: by Jan (new)

Jan | 258 comments I think a lot will depend on the size of the group, but typically we'll pick a certain amount of chapters to read daily, then discuss and share thoughts of what we've read. I use Google docs for smaller buddy reads so everyone has a place to go to, but this group might be too big for that to work effectively so we'll have to figure that part out.
They can be a lot of fun and very insightful! :)

message 1657: by Jan (new)

Jan | 258 comments The first Monday in Feb is actually the 1st, the 2nd week then would be the eighth. Can we make one of these a starting date? I can make both work :)

message 1658: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments I vote for Feb 1

message 1659: by Diane Lynch (new)

Diane Lynch (dianedesmarrstlynch) | 306 comments Can we start a new discussion here under the title of the book?

message 1660: by Pia (new)

Pia | 40 comments A big buddy read sound great!
I like the February 1 date, but I'm open to what you all decide.

Yes we can add it to our Readalong for February.

Fire on Ice.

But please don't forget also booked with us is Martin Link

Readalong and Q & A with author Martin Link.

Who will be doing a special at the end of this month, and a price.

Our Readalong has been a huge success and really is a buddy read.

This month our very popular Buddy Read/Readalong is going great with Susan May.. The Messengers.

Susan is giving the book free, just e-mail her.

Janet | 5302 comments Mod
Understood, Sean, but The Girl On Ice one will be slightly different insofar as the author not being involved. A more chilled approach and one being led by members rather than Mods! :)

The Susan May one has gone well. I'm pleased. :)

Diane S ☔ | 2077 comments Looking forward to this buddy read.

Approved for All the Missing Girls: A Novel All the Missing Girls A Novel by Megan Miranda and Under the Harrow A Novel by Flynn Berry Under the Harrow: A Novel.

message 1671: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments Both those look really good, Diane, despite the fact they are both likened to the other "Girl" books. Why do the publishers continue to make those ridiculous comparisons? It's become laughable. And what is the deal that all psych suspense books have to have "Girl" in the title? Not the way to make your book stand out from the crowd. Dumb marketing.

message 1672: by Diane S ☔ (last edited Jan 11, 2016 07:11PM) (new)

Diane S ☔ | 2077 comments I hate when they compare books to others too, but it must help market them or they wouldn't do it. Girl and baby seem to be common words in thrillers lately.

message 1673: by Janet , Moderator (new)

Janet | 5302 comments Mod
Which is ridiculous because many of us are feeling the same way now. If it has the tag like Gone Girl or The Girl On The Train, it's putting me off. Wonder if authors are frustrated too.

message 1674: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments You know, I am not really put off from reading these as the so-advertised books seem nothing like Girl on a Train to me. I just ignore that stuff the best I can. It's just ridiculous though.

message 1675: by Janet , Moderator (new)

Janet | 5302 comments Mod
I understand that but the tag lines are so damned annoying. Then the next big thing will happen and it'll be that!

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments Can we have a thread close to the time, Janet?

message 1681: by Janet , Moderator (new)

Janet | 5302 comments Mod
Yes, absolutely. I was wondering where to put it ...... because I'd like the threads to stay next to each other.

So, *inspiration just hit, has been known to happen on the rare occasion! ;) * I'm thinking ..... what if I set up a Netgalley Folder then any threads relating to it like this buddy read and maybe future ones can stay in the same place!

I think that would work. What do you think gang?

Jan | 258 comments I just got these approved last week-
All the Missing Girls A Novel by Megan Miranda
Dark Matter by Blake Crouch
and The Beauty of the End by Debbie Howells which was actually a wish list only.
Excited for all 3! (And I'm still under 10 with these 3, yay!)
