Sue (coccotoro) | 2087 comments Christine, I am so sorry to hear about your aunt. Take it easy. Not an nice time. I go in Feb 4th for laser surgery on my right eye, followed by on Feb 10th my cornea transplant surgery. I will have to slow down on my reading in Feb, as it takes 3 months for the sight to come back.

I'm sure the down time is going to be tough, but the end result is going to be so worth it for you! :)

Thanks, Sue. Hey, that is great news that your surgery is coming up quickly. You must be getting pretty excited! Do what the doctor says though and no sneaky reading under the sheets with a flashlight!

Okay, but maybe with a pirate's patch.

Are you thinking of diving into some audiobooks while you are recovering, Sue?

Believe it or not Christine, I have never tried it. I only have my Kindle and my desktop.

A friend had this done and it made such a difference! She was able to see much better within a relatively short time but it took that sort of time for her sight to stabilise again. I hope all goes well for you - and I'd definitely consider checking out some audiobooks ready!

*shoots over to NetGalley*

I don't know how many books I have waiting to be read. Well over a thousand. I know I won't read them all but it is nice to have a choice! That's the way I look at it now.

That's one way to look at it. I just finished a book that was published in 1996 :)

message 1623: by Lynn Renee (new)

Lynn Renee | 1706 comments I've got to buckle down and get my Netgalley books read and reviewed. The second half of 2015 had so much going on that I did get some reading done but not any of the six Netgalley books sitting there to be read. Don't know why but this weather and the time change have thrown me off, I am so tired all the time just have no energy lately. Don't know if it is something going around our not, a few other people have mentioned feeling the same. Anyway, I need to focus on the Netgalley books I have.

lol, I have over 6,000 books on my Kindle. Quite a few of them were free, but it is a lot to read. Of course, I continue adding to them. I do like that I have a choice of various genres to fit whatever I want to read at that moment.

I got approval for The Girl In The Ice early this morning. I briefly net the author on FB earlier and told him our plans for a buddy read. He said he hopes we all enjoy his book and thank you! :)

I haven't had auto approval from anyone. I suspect it maybe something to do with the fact that I rarely read my approvals before publication!! :-D It's all good.

message 1634: by [deleted user] (new)

I've just had 'The Girl in the Ice' approved. Can't wait.

Currently reading Helen Dunmore's 'The Exposure' from Netgalley.. slow starting but I'm persevering.

Elaine - Splashes Into Books (bicted) | 70 comments Diane Lynch wrote: "I've requested my first Netgallery book. How often do people get the books they request?"

There isn't a set answer, Diane . . . some publishers will agree almost immediately, others seem to take months to decide one way or the other! Some folks have recommended by starting by reading the 'Read Now' books which you can download straight away to read. Hope you're going to try to join us reading The Girl In The Ice!

Diane Lynch (dianedesmarrstlynch) | 306 comments I've requested The Girl in the Ice. Will I get an email telling me I'm getting it or will it just show up in my Kindle app since I gave them that address?

You'll get an email, hopefully telling you you've been approved and with a link to the book in it. You can then select in what format you want to download it....

You can also choose some other books that you'll be able to download immediately from the Read Now section. To find that, click on the header menu link to "Find Titles", then click on the "Read Now" link which appears in the left hand menu. Watch out, it's addictive and there are some brilliant books!

Hi Diane, you will receive notification from them on whether you were accepted or rejected. Once accepted, then you can download to your favorite device. The Girl in the Ice was pretty quick in their notification, so you should hear back soon :)

No problem, Diane - any time! Chances are that if it's regarding NetGalley, if I don't know the answer I'll know someone who is another reader and does. . . . others will confirm I use it a lot!

Hopefully, Pia. There's a bunch of us that have this now so a big buddy read read would be good! :)
