Chris | 267 comments Sean you got turned down for Playing with Fire by Gerritson and if the Lost Girls is by Moffet it's a good read.

Mochaspresso | 19 comments I was declined for The Story of Kullervo. :(

message 1108: by Jillian (new)

Jillian (bell4muerte) How do you get involved in reviewing books? I've always wanted to do that.

I can't even seem to request it =/ It says it's not available to request right now :(

It still says it's unavailable and to just wish for it :( So that's what I've done, but I don't hold out much hope to be honest.

message 1111: by Sue (new)

Sue (coccotoro) | 2087 comments Kerry. I have seen that message before, and clicked on "Wish for it". That tells the publisher that there are readers interested in it. Then you will see that this book will then show up as available for request and "Request Now".

Well there is hope on the horizon....I have clicked on the wish for it button many times, and for the first time this week I have had an email from the publisher saying they have granted my wish!

message 1114: by Christine (new)

Guess dreams do come true. None of my wishes have come true yet as I am still waiting.

You need to work on that ratio, Sean!

message 1119: by Pia (new)

Pia | 40 comments NetGalley is completely addictive. I got approved for another book, so now I have 7 new books (in the last 48 hours).

Got turned down for 2, one because it had reached max downloads and the other because it was for the UK only.

Maybe I shouldn't have asked for it? But it was a really good book!

message 1120: by Kerry (new)

Kerry Hunter (kerryelizabeth) Just got accepted for The Girl With No Past which a lot of people have been raving about in one of the Facebook book groups I'm in so I'm really really excited to read that!

Yeah, you always have to keep in mind that there is a finite number of copies available. Once ran out that's it. And you're not always told that is the reason. It really comes down the publishing house. The more high brow, the harder to get ARCs.

I'm so excited for it. Going to start it as soon as I've finished the Angela Marsons book. I've heard wonderful things from some in this group as well! Kimberly loved it as well, I think ^_^

Chris | 267 comments Just got approved for The Passenger by Lisa Lutz . Make fun of me I like quick reads and I am hoping this book is as quirky as the Spellman File books.

message 1126: by Pia (new)

Pia | 40 comments I got approved for the Lisa Lutz book, too!

And I hate it that there's a new Sophie Hannah and I can't request it. It's the same publisher that rejected me as it's only for the UK

Keep on requesting books. I would still request the book you want because you never know.

Hmmm not sure if I should request it. Kerry request the Lutz book and see what happens. I know that I've gotten approval of books that were meant for the UK.

Congratulations Jean!

Kerry, I often request books that are out of area, and sometimes get approved! If you don't try, you won't get it. If you do try and still don't get it, nothing lost. I have just requested the new Sophie Hannah even though it says UK members preferred....8:D

message 1134: by Kerry (new)

Kerry Hunter (kerryelizabeth) I just requested it with your encouragement, guys ^_^ You're totally right, nothing lost if I don't get it. At least I tried :D

I don't know... they said I'm not in the UK, they can't send the book for copyright reasons, and last -but not least- they want reviews only in English: "We are unlikely to approve requests from reviewers who are not publishing exclusively in English"

I wonder how it affects them if I publish a review for a book in another language. But anyway, books in English I always review in English.

Sandysbookaday (taking a step back for a while) (sandyj21) | 5105 comments Jilliank wrote: "I guess I don't understand what your all talking about "getting approved". Can someone explain this to me?"

@ Jilliank....Netgalley is a site that provides books for review. You apply to review a book/s and it is at the publisher's discretion whether you are approved or declined as a reviewer for that book. Clear as mud? There may be several reasons for being declined - they feel you don't have a big enough following; you live out of the preferred region for where the book is being released; they have already allocated all the copies available; and no doubt several more.
