Am trying Janet, but am slowed down a little by just having had eye surgery....Eyes get tired very quickly and are very photosensitive.

Only doing 1/2 day at work today as overdid it on the computer yesterday, so will go home, rest the eyes and finish my audio-book. 8:D

Janet | 5302 comments Mod
Yeah you should if you've just had surgery. Get plenty of rest, you don't want to do any damage. Take it easy. And get off here .... it's not resting your eyes!!!

Sue (coccotoro) | 2087 comments I am finishing up You Can Trust Me by Sophie McKenzie , and I still have 3 more books on Netgalley to read:

The Doll's House (Helen Grace, #3) by M.J. Arlidge
Be Afraid by Mary Burton
Those Girls by Chevy Stevens

Enjoy everyone!

message 68: by DianeAlice (new)

DianeAlice | 142 comments I've decided I must make the effort to start writing reviews for my NetGalley reads rather than just give them stars. Very naughty of me. I'm not going to request any more till I've read the ones I've got. Reading I Let You Go at the moment so that will be my first proper review.

message 69: by Janet , Moderator (new)

Janet | 5302 comments Mod
Omn surprised that they still gave you books!! Naughty, DA!

message 70: by DianeAlice (new)

DianeAlice | 142 comments I know, I'm a bit surprised too really. Just kind of realised it's a bit wrong of me lol. It's just that I don't usually write reviews at all but hopefully I'll be able to string a few sentences together ; )

Dana ****Reads Alot**** | 78 comments DianeAlice. .I hate writing reviews. because I am terrible at them. But with Net Galley it seems to be very important. The more reviews and the more you read you will most likely be approved for more. :) like my complaint has been I feel lije I have to be in a race to read. I do have a family take care of first Net Galley.

message 73: by Janet , Moderator (new)

Janet | 5302 comments Mod
Take your point, Dana. But let's not sure that we are getting books for free even if the formatting isn't perfect. Some of these books when published are expensive, I've saved a fair bit and read some excellent books. I think NetGalley is a great concept but it is a privilege too. Writing a small review is no big ask for that privilege I don't think. The trick is not to select too many books then you can stay on top of them.

message 74: by Dana (new)

Dana ****Reads Alot**** | 78 comments Janet that is very very true. its just one of things that are the cons. in the beginning of my nett galley addiction I was requesting five books at once . it was to much. for me. now I do one or two. we are very privileged to be able to read these books in advance. and the selection vis fantastic!! just wish I was a speed reader lije I was in my teenage years

message 75: by Janet , Moderator (new)

Janet | 5302 comments Mod
Same here! I made exactly the same mistake. Requested way too many in the beginning. Still haven't caught up in over a year. Honestly I could request loads but seriously have to think about feedback. Took me ages to get my ratio up, even now it's only at 70%!!

Sue (coccotoro) | 2087 comments Janet wrote: "Same here! I made exactly the same mistake. Requested way too many in the beginning. Still haven't caught up in over a year. Honestly I could request loads but seriously have to think about feedb..."

I now only request 3-4 at a time and my ratio is 92%.

message 77: by DianeAlice (new)

DianeAlice | 142 comments It is very tempting to keep looking and requesting but I'm not a super fast reader (unless I'm up all night unable to sleep) so really got to get a grip of myself and those reviews done before I request any more. You're right Janet, it is a privilege and I do feel bad that I haven't done proper reviews before. So that's my belated New Years resolution!

message 80: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments Dana, I have hadHaustrau on my list and there is a big line at the library. Tell me what you think. I have one Net Galley to read and don't want to reserve another until I start that one.

message 81: by Dana (new)

Dana ****Reads Alot**** | 78 comments Christine maybe you should request at Net Galley. I was approved within a day. I have heard many good things about this book!!! 1!

Oh, Kim, I might have to go for that one!!!! I am trying to use restraint with Net Galley. It is incredibly addictive."

I looked at Hidden and NetGalley said it was not available in the U.S.A.

message 87: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments Right, Lynn. I found that out when I tried to request it.

Janet, I'm new to NetGalley and trying to figure out the website. Could you explain what archived means? I have one book with no archive date and one with an archive date. I've been using the help pages but some things are not explained. Also, my two books were listed on my shelf. I moved them to the reading shelf, is that correct?

message 89: by Sue (new)

Sue (coccotoro) | 2087 comments Yes, Lynn and Christine...we don't rate. Waiting for price to fall or used. I am going to check Book Depository.

message 90: by Janet , Moderator (new)

Janet | 5302 comments Mod
Hi Lynn! Achieved means when the book is no longer available to request. Moving to your reading shelf is absolutely fine. It's just to help you out with organising your books. Once you've been approved your books always download them as soon as so you don't forget.

The reason I went out to NetGalley and finished my profile was because I read the blurb for Hidden.

message 96: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments Well, you are now ready for other books, Lynn, so not a waste by any means.

You BUM!!!

I complained about not receiving a hard cover book, used but in excellent condition, The Murder Bag (Max Wolfe, #1) by Tony Parsons by Tony Parsons, and they went and sent me a replacement from UK. Today, I got the original, so now I have 2 hard cover copies of this book.
