Sean, dear, you do realize you have turned your life over to Net Galley. Was sure nice to know you when you were a free man. Maybe Janet's jail would have been a better option....

Dang, just looked. Not in the States. Waaaaah.
He is so in jail!!!
I thought about requesting the Rosamund Lupton book but changed my mind. I did request a book and have forgotten what I requested.

Janet, that is NOT a good sign. It tells me you aren't in love with your selection, which means it may well not be calling you from the depths of your to-read shelf once you get it.
My official diagnosis for you is: NetGalley Trigger Finger. It can be fatal (see post directed to Sean above). Just sayin', Girlfriend...
Nah! Just a lot crammed on database in head. Been book buying today so forgetting what I've got where. Book I requested was In The Dark Dark Woods.
I hate to hear that Rosamund Lupton's book is not in the US. I love her!!! I really enjoy Net Galley.
Janet wrote: "Nah! Just a lot crammed on database in head. Been book buying today so forgetting what I've got where. Book I requested was In The Dark Dark Woods."Oh, I just put that on my list this week. Trip to NG...
I just requested the new Jonathan Kellerman book really hope I get the book because he is one of my all time favorite authors.
I have been passing up temptation. No NG books on my shelves and 100% rating. I have to say, I don't think the percentage means beans. I am betting overall # of reviews plays a more important role (except in Sean's case, of course) as does whether you have a blog or other special means to spread the word. Or if you have Amazon "badges".
I think you're right, Christine. Regular bloggers sit around the 50% ratio and don't get turned down for much. There's a couple of publishing houses that I rarely get turned down by which is good. The rest is just pot luck. I do think the vast majority of books on there aren't 'big' highly sought after ones. I wouldn't request most of them.
Absolutely, Christine! And the vast majority of those will probably be on special offer at some point. Or in discount bookstores around. And libraries are brill and the fact that e book lending is now available is fab. There's always a way and there's no hurry to read the latest blockbuster. Hell I'd never keep up!!!
Isn't that a good feeling though? That in our lifetimes we will never ever lack a huge choice of potential 5 star books to read! And it's so much fun trying to pick them out of the crowd!
Totally! And you know me I often go against popular consensus! The fun is finding little gems as and where!
YES, Janet!! I really have not read that many blockbusters at all, yet I have read a wealth of terrific novels. I have struck gold with amazing frequency this year.
Got approved today The Mistake I Made
I've read a couple of Paula Daly's before and have enjoyed them so this was a no brainer for me.

Janet wrote: "Girlfriend, as long as YOU enjoy them, nothing else matters!! :0))"Oh, I do Janet. Just finished another sparkling gem today as a beta read.
The psychological thrillers are the diciest books for me in terms of will I like it or not. I think because they tend to have a higher percentage of unlikeable characters, including the protags.

Good for you! I just wish my reading mojo would remain consistent!

I know what you mean. Once I'm engaged, I'm there.... it's getting me engaged ... therein is the sticking point!!
Do you feel it takes more to engage you now than, say, last year? Is that part of the imconsistent mojo? I do think a reading vacation (in this instance meaning a vacation from reading) is definitely an okay thing. Sometimes I think the pull to read keeps me from doing other things that I really should be doing instead.
Maybe ..... maybe I'm just too easily distracted! I think I've always been a bit like that, up and down.
Thanks Chris, I'm (happily) surprised I got it!

Congrats. I hope I say that if I get approved for Jonathan Kellerman's new book even though her the last book by her I wasn't that crazy about. Enjoy
I have requested very few Netgalley books recently in order to read three that I already have: My Year of Running Dangerously: A Dad, a Daughter, and a Ridiculous Plan, Black Man in a White Coat: A Doctor's Journey Through Race, Medicine, and Inequality, and A Thousand Naked Strangers: A Paramedic’s Wild Ride to the Edge and Back. I can't even imagine having hundreds on my unread shelf as some do - I'd be stressed out - haha! Was curious if others have ever requested a book, and just not heard anything? I once requested a book really late, and it was archived soon after, so my request was listed as denied even though I never got any notification. It also wasn't surprising since it was a publisher that seems to normally deny my requests (Doubleday). However, I requested
at the beginning of June and still haven't heard anything. The publication date isn't until October, but I just think it's odd to take this long, since most others have been taking only a matter of hours or a few days.
Nice batch you have Traci. In regards to no answer, I request Linwood Barclay's newest (Broken Promises, I believe is the title) back in April and never heard a word. You still might hear if it's been 3 weeks. I guess there's a way to contact the publisher, but not sure exactly how to do that. Does anyone?

I'm looking forward to reading the three that I have currently, as all seem really interesting (and two stick with my common theme of healthcare/medicine - haha). You actually might be interested in those also with your background. I don't really mind that the publisher hasn't approved or denied yet, and honestly, it probably helps me more if they wait since my rating will stay up longer. ;) I'm just kind of curious if that happens often and some publishers never respond.
Yeah, I wonder that too, Traci. It's proving true with this Barclay book. They could at least say no, you know? And yes, your current NG books did get my attention.
That's happened to me a few times. I contact Netgalley directly and they contact the publisher. Last time I did it didn't hear anything for months so when the decline eventually came through I wasn't fussed. If I get approved great, if I don't, meh!!
Janet wrote: "That's happened to me a few times. I contact Netgalley directly and they contact the publisher. It seems odd that they just wouldn't respond at all, but I suppose publishers must get tons of requests for some of the most popular books. I actually tend to request books that aren't likely to be best-sellers for the most part though.
No system is perfect, Traci. Things slip through the net. Just human error now and again I'm guessing.
Lynn wrote: "What is this net galley thing I keep seeing about???"log on to NetGalley.com and take a look Lynn.
You apply to read ARC of books not yet released in exchange for an honest review. Good fun...but kinda addictive.....*:D
