Thanks Sue, as I have had the same problem as Sean...thought I was going a bit doolally! 8:D

And so we should also be able to delete them from there?

That is correct Sandy. You can delete it off your Kindle, but it still remains in the clouds and is on you list under Amazon documents, to resend to your Kindle, if you ever want it again. The history never disappears off Amazon.

Sandysbookaday (taking a midwinter break) (sandyj21) | 5101 comments Thank you Sue...I have a couple of DNF's on there that i would never read again, and a couple of books that I somehow managed to download twice (probably because i am impatient!) so I can now get rid of my NetGalley duplicates. 8:D

ROFL!!!!!! LOL, LOL, LOL Janet! Good one! If they were sweets or cookies, the goal would be to grab as many as you possibly can. Manners be damned!

Sandysbookaday (taking a midwinter break) (sandyj21) | 5101 comments have just been approved for Not On Fire, Only Dying Not On Fire, Only Dying by Susan Rukeyser .

Sean - how many books have you got on your NG shelf? Mine is currently sitting at 32......so much for vowing a couple of weeks ago, when it was at 20, that I wasn't going to browse NG and tempt myself....
But going on holiday next week so should manage to prune a few off while I am away. 8:D

Sue - what flavour?

message 461: by Sue (new)

Sue (coccotoro) | 2087 comments I want some chocolate mint ice cream. You guys are really bad with your lute list on Netgalley...32...even 20!!! I am reading one now and have 4 left. I wouldn't want to deal with your stress.

message 462: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments Sean is clearly not stressing, Sue, lol!

message 463: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments Sandy, I would like to order Some Edy's French Silk Pie ice cream or Breyer's Natural Vanilla Bean. Of course any flavor if it's homemade!!

Do you serve ice cream in your restaurant?

message 464: by Sean, Moderator (new)

Sean Peters | 10511 comments Mod
Read and reviewed 3-4 books, and another 45 on my bookshelf.

Only request a book if a well know author, or really fancy, and only go on the site once or twice a week.

Trying my best to catch up a bit the next few weeks.

But not stressing at all, seem to get approved although not read a lot, but I have mentioned this in my biography notes, that may take me time to read the books.

message 467: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments Don't feel bad, Pat. I have had the same experience. They even rejected me for the book about the first year medical resident. I am thinking of changing my name to Sean...

Yes we do, but nothing as exotic as that - in fact I have never heard of these. We serve French Vanilla in sundaes and with our brownie and sticky date pudding. It is optional with our other desserts.

I don't tend to get stressed about having so many books on my shelf...I feel "safe" having them. I would get nervous if I only had 4!

Pat - I go through phases where they decline a lot of my requests and then all of a sudden they start accepting them again! I really can't figure out their selection process at all. So I just randomly apply for anything that catches my fancy. I have read some wonderful new authors! Am going to have a catch up on holiday next week. 3 hours uninterrupted reading on the flight to Australia for a start, then another hour on an internal flight. Who could ask for a better start to a holiday? 8:D

message 470: by Janet , Moderator (new)

Janet | 5302 comments Mod
I wouldn't feel bad. My attitude to NetGalley is really changing. I'm starting to feel that I'm becoming more and more reluctant to the whole thing of being tied down and committed. I've made the decision to cut right back in my selections. I don't select anything I don't know which is the vast majority of it, nor do I want to be seduced by the next 'must haves.' They're not always that good anyway. I think I'm missing out on a lot of books that were written a few years ago and I really want to mix things up. The upshot being I want to do what I want to do. And authors don't get paid for NetGalley reads. I'm not going to commit to books that I don't have time for, doesn't really seem fair.

message 471: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments That's a really good perspective, Janet. I have to admit though that I can't help feeling a bit of a hit when a publisher tells me I am not good enough to review their book. I know, I know, but it's one of those knee jerk reactions. I have a ton of committments right now and after I get through it all, I hope to go back to MY choice of stuff for a time, like Janet is going to do. Sometimes you gotta stop the world and get off for a little timeout if you can. And I am hoping I can. I say that as I can't always trust myself. No smily face after that.

message 472: by Janet , Moderator (new)

Janet | 5302 comments Mod
Know what you mean, Christine. It's not about the 'free' book anymore, not for me anyway. I still see it as a huge privilege but I've got enough books to keep me going for a couple of years. I mean 50 + books is a year's worth of reading for some. But time for a change. I want to get excited again and at the minute I'm not.

message 473: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments So do you have a reading game plan for getting that excitement back, Janet? What I mean is are you ready to put all else aside and prioritize searching for "that" book that will do it for you? And if so, do you know the type of book you will target and do you have any candidates you are considering? Sounds like the Hot Seat, but just wondering how you are going to attack this as when I lost my desire to read earlier this year I found the experience to be depressing and very challenging and wasn't real sure how to proceed.

message 474: by Janet , Moderator (new)

Janet | 5302 comments Mod
I have no idea how to proceed but changing genre might be an idea. In my current state if a book doesn't hook me in very early on, it's losing me and making me feel worse. I don't know what to do.

Sandysbookaday (taking a midwinter break) (sandyj21) | 5101 comments Changing genre is probably a good idea Janet, even if for a very brief time. I do it every now and then....I need something light after a particularly heavy dose of blood and gore. Then i find I am quite happy to go back to my preferred reads.
And I have discovered so many "new" (to me anyway) authors through NG, and a few really great debut writes - I find it all quite exciting.
And if something is not grabbing me I have no hesitation in abandoning it, but i always message the publisher and tell them exactly why I have abandoned it. Happy reading all. Hope you get over your reading "funk" soon Janet. 8:D

Finished Evil Games. Review is up.

Started on Huntress Moon Huntress Moon (The Huntress/FBI Thrillers Book 1) by Alexandra Sokoloff

A NetGalley read.

message 478: by Patricia (new)

Patricia | 1266 comments Janet and Christine - I totally agree with both of you that stepping back from Net galley is a good thing. Yes, I get caught up with being able to read the next "big thing" but yes, they seldom are that good. And I stress over the commitment. I have so many books to read that I own and so many I want to read that a time out is a good thing. Also summers are busy and my reading slows down. By the time winter comes, I'm ready to snuggle up with a stack of books.

message 479: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments Thanks, Pat. Reading under pressure is starting to be no fun.

message 480: by Janet , Moderator (new)

Janet | 5302 comments Mod
I agree. Once I've got a batch out the way, I'm pulling right back. I don't have a point to prove anywhere. I'll still go for the odd potential gem but less of a commitment.

message 481: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments I hope I can be as strong as you, Janet. I really need to read for me for a time with no deadlines, but I get so easily sucked into the read-for-reviews. The beta reads I like as I like the authors and would read the books anyway. I will say that I actually turned down 2 read-for-reviews yesterday. Proud of myself.

Well, thank you! :-) Chris knows I've never signed up for NetGalley. I never wanted the stress.

I read back through the most recent messages and it looks like some of you are getting burned out. I never understood why anyone would want to read under pressure. It's like a job to read and review so in depth the way you all do.

I hope you all find the fun and relaxation in reading again.

message 484: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments We are trying, Brenda!!

message 485: by Patricia (new)

Patricia | 1266 comments *applause* Brenda for having good insight. I think I was flattered and so jumped in. I have some authors I don't mind and will continue for them but I am backing off on looking for 'trouble'.

message 486: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments If I go for a Net Galley book, it will have to be one that I am pretty darn certain I will like a lot and no more than 1-2 at a time.

My sentiments exactly. Authors that I'm really sure of or the sell has to be really good from sources.

message 488: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments Like Stacy Green's Lucy Kendall series, Janet. I highly highly highly recommend it. Reading book 3 right now and it is fantastic! I know you didn't care for Tin God, but this is entirely different and brilliantly written.

message 500: by Lynn Renee (last edited Jun 16, 2015 11:42PM) (new)

Lynn Renee | 1705 comments I've been just requesting one or two at a time. Since January I've been approved for five books and denied one. There were another two that I never heard anything about, would have been nice to get a response even if it was a denial.

Just requested Evil Games since I will be reading Silent Scream soon. Hoping it will be approved, but it seems to be a crap shoot. My percentage is 100%. I've just been going slow with it.

Do you think that the more reviews you've done on Net Galley makes a difference? I could choose from the Read Now, and a publisher has approved me for any of their books. I haven't checked out their selection to much yet.
