Chit Chat Thread (# 2)
For our non kiwis - the worst storm in NZ history is heading our way.
Will only affect (by current predictions) part of the North Island, but I live on the Coromandel where it is supposed to be really bad.
Gulp.
I'll be switching my computer off from Sunday night & there is a good chance we will lose power.

If you are still in Auckland, same to you!
I woke up at 4 because it had become very warm. Rain started around 4.30, was heavy for a while, then stopped. Light drizzle now.

Understandable, no point sitting in Wellington worrying! Just keep your car radio on!

Did you get home safely, Melinda?

This is a c&p from a post I made on another group
Its calm outside now, so I'm on the computer.
Really rugged night last night - which I slept through.
Marty thought the roof & the archgola were going to come off! When I woke at 5 everything was calm. Picked up a bit around 7ish, but ok now (9.13am)
It hasn't hit Auckland (really) yet. Apparently it is going to loop back. :(

I'm glad!
A b-i-l's flight to Christchurch on Wednesday has been cancelled. :(

National State of Emergency has been declared.
Wind warning for our area until midnight. Since we didn't get wind last night it might just be late arriving.
Marty's Wellington sister experiencing high winds.
Erica & Lesley I hope you are ok.

Thanks Carol. I'm all good. Didn't even feel the earthquake cos me and my sister had made the most of a break in the rain and gone for an evening walk to Island Bay. Got home just on time for the next downpour. Fingers crossed for a sunny weekend.
Thinking of all those affected across the country by Cyclone Gabrielle. Absolute terrifying stories of people trying to escape rising floodwaters. I still haven't had any contact from a family friend in Gisborne and have had other extended family lose houses in flooding in Pakowhai. They thankfully were rescued off rooftops and made it to safety.
There is a Stuff appeal on Givealittle raising money for Red Cross and the Mayoral Relief Funds if you have some spare $ you want to contribute.

That is good!
Houses in our town have been red stickered - including someone I used to work with. :(
& our dead end road is very crumbly looking - fortunately not near our house. I haven't been able to bring myself to have a thorough look around.

& I'm going to Auckland for a couple of days. Our son 'shouted' us a dinner cruise for tonight & tomorrow there is a family party. Looking forward to the break!

Good luck! :)
Good luck! :)
I'm very excited.
I'm a big fan of Gin Wigmore. She is a NZ singer/songwriter who now lives in the States (& has become a US citizen) She is doing a tour of NZ at the moment. I missed out getting tickets to the original shows as I had the fatigue after COVID & didn't try to buy tickets until 6 days after their release. & they had all sold out. I was so mad with myself.
Well, she had to cancel the Hawkes Bay leg of her tour 😢 & added a couple more shows. & I got tickets to the Auckland show - which is tomorrow!
This is my favourite of her songs.

I hope all our North Island members are ok during the current bad weather.
Calm & sunny here today (& my town didn't get it too bad before that) but the bad weather is supposed to loop back tomorrow.

Hope everyone is coping with the current round of bad weather in Aotearoa!
Yesterday we had four seasons in one day here. I slept through it but we had quite strong winds & heavy rain last night. & it is raining again now.
Just in case anyone feels like listening to it;

Happy Matariki day everyone!
For any non Kiwis in this group, this is the Māori New Year, now celebrated as a public holiday. Does anyone have any plans?

Really hoping that if we EVER have weather like this again we'll be better off.
