Well done Cynda! You're very close. I also really admired that book of short stories by Ted Chiang. I hope your last four are satisfying!

Cynda | 5192 comments Ted Chaing is a superstar! I might have read more of his work.

Darya Silman (geothepoet) | 118 comments How do you find Mao Tse-Tung's quotations? I wanted to read them out of curiosity. I don't think they aged well

message 55: by Cynda (new)

Cynda | 5192 comments Hi Darya. I am reading the quotations of the little Red Book so that I can understand the disaster that was the Chinese Revolution. Another Goodreads friend Larry provided me with a link to an article I will look for within next 24 hours. I am awake so late that it is almost early. Off to bed I go.

Klowey | 657 comments Congratulations. I'm glad you like Ted Chiang. My partner, John, turned me onto him. John and I were both in high tech (Chiang was a technical writer as I was) and we like speculative fiction if it's intelligent.

Also, Chiang is a big fan of Borges and it seems pays homage to Borges a lot.

Cynda | 5192 comments Thanks Klowey for encouraging me to read Borges. I have been intrigued.

Cynda | 5192 comments July felt like a reading wonder month with it's extreme heat which kept me mostly mostly inside reading. Even better, I read quite a few of these books with reading friends here and at other GR groups. Reading friends make all the difference 🍎🍏🍎

Two group selections a month is also the amount I seem to read.

message 68: by Kathleen (new)

Kathleen | 5458 comments Congratulations, Cynda! I was just thinking how the only thing I want to do in this heat is sit very quiet and read. Looks like you made it work for you--well done!

message 69: by Cynda (new)

Cynda | 5192 comments Yes Kathleen it did work for me. Now a local meteorologist says particularly cold winter may come. I know what to do :-)
