Welcome to the Winter 2022 Readathon Team Challenge! The prompts for this should look pretty familiar to you...because it's the Around the Year 2022 List. That's right, you and your teammates will be endeavoring to complete as many of the 52 2022 ATY prompts as you can in one week.

Start: December 11, whenever you get up
End: December 18, whenever you go to bed

Want to sign up for a team? Click here!
A link to the list of teams and their members will appear later

Rules:
1. A book can only be used to satisfy one prompt, unless two people on the team both read it.
2. As per usual in our readathons, books need to be at least 100 pages in length, with the exception of graphic novels/picture books which must be at least 200 pages.
3. Books must be completed by 12/18. Books started before 12/11 may be used if they have more than 100 pages left.

Wildcards:
For every 5000 pages read or minutes listened to as a team, one wildcard is generated. Stuck on a particular prompt? Stick a wildcard on it and call it done. Audiobooks are converted at a rate of 1 minute = 1 page.

FAQ

Question: For *insert prompt here*, can I use *insert book here*?
Answer: The only people you need to convince are your teammates. I only attempt to enforce fairness when there's a prize attached. This is a prize-free and judgement-free readathon. Make yourself happy. The reading police will never know :)

Team Hyde I promise you will get a page, as soon as Goodreads lets me post it.

Edit: Robin got it posted!

Irene (irene5) | 907 comments Is there any chance we can get an extra day for this read-a-thon to have it be the same length as the past few read-a-thons? (9 days?) xD

message 14: by Katherine (new)

Katherine | 238 comments Question-- How much of an audiobook would you have to have left in order for it to count as a completed book, and not just pages? I had 2 hr 37 minutes left on mine.

message 15: by Alicia (new)

Alicia | 1490 comments Katherine, since we need at least 100 pages for it to count and 1 minute = 1 page, I’d say 100 minutes (1 hour and 40 minutes). So you should be good

message 16: by Alicia (new)

Alicia | 1490 comments I’d also love if we could extend an extra day to end Sunday. Just for the holiday spirit!!

message 17: by °~Amy~° (new)

°~Amy~° (amybooksit) Hi Jackie!

Can we get an individual tracking page please?

:)

message 18: by Sophia (new)

Sophia (jonquilles) | 192 comments This may be silly but there's no rule against two people on the same team reading the same book, right? I realize we'd have to log it for different prompts for the purposes of the read-a-thon

2 people can read the same book as long as they use it for different prompts.

Yes, I agree, 100 minutes left works.

No, we will keep the readathon the Sunday - Sunday length we pre-determined. I appreciate that you all love the readathons, but I don't want to change the length mid-thon.

That was my feeling also, since we already started. We will keep this in mind for future readathons, good to know how much people enjoy them.

message 25: by Irene (new)

Irene (irene5) | 907 comments Ah, I thought I asked before the readathon started but realize that it was cutting it very close for people in other time zones. Anyway, I completely understand and 8 days is still great! :) Just out of curiosity, was there any particular reason it was shortened this time? (This is only my 5th readathon but they seemed to all be the same length until now.)

Other readathons have happened to fall on three-day weekends (at least for Americans). Other than that, I think we have historically done Sat to Sat or Sun to Sun.

message 27: by Alicia (new)

Alicia | 1490 comments Maybe it was the three-day weekends that tricked me. But it would be nice to have two full weekends (sat & sun) to complete. But totally get that it could be more work and you all do so much for us as it is.

message 28: by Irene (new)

Irene (irene5) | 907 comments That makes sense, I didn't even think about holiday weekends! The ones I've participated in (Sept 11-19, 2021; Feb 19-27, 2022, May 21-29, 2022; and Sept 10-18, 2022) have all been Sat-Sun so I guess I just thought that was the norm LOL. I completely agree with Alicia - I love having two weekends, but not if it's more work for the (awesome!) mods.

message 29: by °~Amy~° (new)

°~Amy~° (amybooksit) Jackie - it looks like some of the groups are getting close to completing the entire list. Will it break the spreadsheet to add a couple more columns (another BOOK READ and BY MEMBER column) to the PROMPTS page or should we start a second page for round 2?

message 30: by Jackie, Solstitial Mod (last edited Dec 16, 2022 03:42PM) (new)

Jackie | 2457 comments Mod
I literally did not think yall would finish the challenge even once. Like I didn't think any group would get close. I thought to myself, "is this too hard? is this demoralizing?" And yet here we are.

You can add another 'book read' and 'by member' column to the prompts page; it won't break it. The color-coding won't apply to your second round, but that's just a visual aid anyway.

Lord help me the next time I underestimate your combined reading power lol
