Patrick Langenströer | 4 comments Hi! I'm a new librarian and would like to start adding new books to the database. Sadly I can't find out how to do that...

I searched the help and the librarian manual, but all I find is a help page that tells me to post the book information in the librarian group.

Is there an article that tells me how to do it on my own?

Many thanks in advance. :)

Elizabeth (Alaska) On the search page, right side, is "manually add a book"

If the book in question is an edition of an existing work, please use that existing work as your starting point. Each existing work should have a link to Add a New Edition.

If the book in question is not an edition of an existing work, but its author already has other works listed on Goodreads, please use the "To add more books, click here" link on that author's book list. (e.g., at the bottom of this page https://www.goodreads.com/author/list...)

It's not the only way to add books to an existing author, but it is one of the simplest. Especially for newer Librarians who may be less aware of the spacing in various same-name authors.

Dear fellow librarians,
I did it! I'm happy and a little proud. :D
Thank you for your help!
I solved it via the author's page and added a new book.

This is the book:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6...

Feel free to tell me, if you find something I might have done wrong or could have done better.
The picture is taken from the Publishers webpage of the book.

But - I have to tell you - I'm really happy that the author already had a book in the database, because I could not find the help article for adding a new book...? -,-

Which "search page" are you talking about, Elisabeth? Could you help me out again?

I even searched for "manually add a book" in the librarian manual but I could not find anything?

Thank you all again!
Maybe we can solve my second problem too. Just in case I want to add book of an yet unknown author sometimes in the future. :)

Karin | 3219 comments Hoi Patrick, you can also add the ISBN-10 when you have the ISBN-13 and visa versa.

You use this tool to converse the ISBN. :

I also use this translator when I'm stuck with some languages.

This is an example of a search page: https://www.goodreads.com/search?utf8... where I used the title and author of the book you've just added.

The search page has been around since the inception of the site in 2007. It is standard and I use it almost every day. It's at the top of every Goodreads page - just click the spyglass.

Patrick Langenströer | 4 comments Oh boy, ... the standard search page... :D
Sorry, I missunderstood. I was always looking at the search page of the Librarian Manual.

Now I found the button! I also put down some notes for myself, so that I remember the three ways of adding a new book. (via new edition, author oage or manually via search page)

Thanks a lot for the explanations and the pictures! :)

Thank you for the tools! I added the ISBN-10 to the book's data. :)
