The hating game. I wouldn’t say it was the worst bc writing isn’t that bad but it was so boring and literally had no plot. I feel like I wasted time reading it
As If On Cue by Marisa Kanter I expected a good enemies to lovers romance with some musical vibes … but no. It was soo boring, there was no plot, plus the romance was so flat
I literally wasted my time reading it
Sweetbitter by Stephanie DnalerI started it in January with high expectations because of a pretty cover and a decent enough blurb
its December and Im still not done with it
I think that says something, as Im usually not picky with books
everything seems so flat, besides the food descriptions, and I dont know whats going on most of the time and hell, I didnt even know who the main character's name was and just went with "Stephanie" the whole time
She gets the girl. It was boring overal and the same thing kept repeating. It was very slow passed imo.
taken by fate by shannon something, no plot just smut and i got three chapters in then literally burned the book.AND THE WAY SHE OBJECTIFIED THE WOMAN WAS HORRIBLE
Bully by Penelope DouglasI swear to God I hated that book: I hated the characters, the reasons behind the way the male lead acted, their relationship and how important topics were handled so poorly. Worst book I've ever read
Oh Blindness by José Saramago, A Winter's Promise by Christelle Dabos and anything written by Sarah J. Maas after Heir of Fire. Consequently, all three are written in a very misogynistic way. Coincidence?? Truly these books made me wish I could give negative star ratings. My review of A Winter's Promise: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
But I think I hate Blindness the most. I truly, truly hate that book I wish I could burn it but that would be a waste of money and paper. It's everything I hate about grim dark but in pretentiously academic classic book form. The sexual assault scenes made me want to vomit, I had an upset stomach for days. The book said nothing deep or interesting. The bar is in hell if this is among the highest-praised books of Latin American classic literature.

No offense to anyone who likes it, but, The Hazel Wood by Melissa AlbertThese were my issues with it -
1. The MC, Alice, is incredibly…. Stupid. She a 10/10 on the annoyingly written, overly headstrong, kind of toxic heroine scale. She doesn’t think *anything* through and charges headlong into every situation with a following internal dialogue that makes no sense and does nothing to justify her actions.
2. Poor Ellery Finch. Every other page he was yelled at and argued with by Alice. She would not leave him alone. He seemed like a genuinely nice guy who just wanted to help. Alice refused to see that and was just constantly biting his head off and making some kinda racist comments.
3. The actually writing was just bad. It is like the author was trying to be whimsical, mysterious, and fantastical. The way she tried to piece those together however was warped and language was so misused it was almost impossible to understand what she was trying to say.
It sounded a bit like this:
Normal - A butter knife was thrust into Alice’s side. The attacker buried it deeper, wrenching and twisting.
Melissa Albert: A silver utensil used to spread a substance on a slice of French rye was slashed into Alice’s appendages. She cried out in a low keening moan but found a strength deep within her soul reserves to turn and look at the black demon who dared to assault her. The demon pushed and thrust the undulating silver mantle deeper until it felt he could go no further and her soul had been torn from her body by the pain.
That is a bit dramatic but that is what it felt like! And at other times the author constantly was using short answers, simple words such as good, bad, angry, etc etc
4. This could have been a work of genius! After I finished reading the book I was shocked into silence by the stumbling, glaring bones of a first draft that The Hazel Wood was. That was exactly what it felt like. A first draft nowhere near being ready for publication. Had the plot been executed properly it had the possibility to become a staple book in anyones fantasy collection. I was extremely disappointed
I read a lot of tiktok books last year and i regret some of them (no spoilers): anything by Colleen hoover, she has zero diversity in her books (apart from her bad claim when she had lily (as an ally☆) write letters to ELLEN FUCKING DEGENERES), people say write what you know but when you're straight, cis and white please try and add some poc and queer folk
the love hypothesis: *sighs* where do I begin
.shes so small and he's so big
.they don't have personalities apart from the fact that they're scientists and he's so big and she's so small
.she has no backbone and needs adam
.she gets assulted and the only resolution is Adam yelling at the dude
.It is STAR WARS fanfiction STAR WARS
.the author had to hire someone to help her write love on the brain because she doesn't know how to write anything but fanfiction
. the author has only written one poc in her backlist and that is olive
.30 page smut which was bad smut and he fit her whole boob in his mouth
MOVING ON
the silent patient:
I hated this
. the reason she went silent was so dumb
. the evidence found at the end did not match the description we were given at the beggining
. I guessed on page 15 and was correct
. the plotholes after the reveal were so dumb
. WHEN HE FIRST ENTERED THE BUILDING HE HAD A LIGHTER TAKEN OFF HIM BUT WAS THEN SMOKING WITH ALICIA INSIDE ... I!??!
. the main guy was just a carbon copy of the author in a negative way
. every time (or nearly) he met a person he'd say something like "he was an attractive fellow" or the opposite "he was not very attractive" LIKE BISH I DONT NEED TO KNOW JUST GET ON WITH THE STORY
The worst part though
was the misogynistic undertone oh dear god
this straight white dude goes and investigates this murder of a woman because he doesn't think she did it... why?... never said...does he do it without giving a reason...yes...
...
HE HAS ABSOLUTELY NO REASON TO BE SUS OF ALICIA APART FROM THE FACT HE DOESNT THINK WOMEN CAN COMMIT CRIMES LIKE WTAF
anyway ty for letting me rant I feel a bit better now, don't read these book :]
