J. (wraecca) | 127 comments I've been thinking. I've had my collections of OHCs, Omnis, and paperbacks.

Whenever there's an Omni, I'm ready for it! Especially the ones I've read on paperback or collected on OHCs.

But recently, I've been thinking whether Omnis are worth for the read or the value itself.

I've been skimming over the internet paying attention to "printing errors"...

I remember having purchased an Ultimate Spiderman Omni vol. 1 a while back, and the binding basically couldn't hold together when I got it...

I got to thinking how some formats are easier to read and handle than others. For example, Vertigo Deluxe editions are probably a better to own and read than paperbacks.

Then I've been noticing that the recent reprints of Marvel and DC omnis have less quality paper material used.

It makes me think and wonder.

While printing errors are not good for anyone, it seems like that should be left out out of the comparison, but it's hard to deny that the sheer number of printing errors doesn't affect one's decision.

I've heard many people complain about the size of omnibus, being unmanageable when trying to read. I think there is a limit where it is just too much for one volume, but there's something satisfying about having "everything" in one book.

Thinner paper isn't really the answer either and I think that's more of a cost factor for the publishers. The original omnibus had nice paper, but now it's very thin and I can't deny that it has lessened my desire to purchase them.

One danger of the OHCs is that there's always the chance that they will not complete the series/storyline and print all of the volumes.

There's also the dreaded spine design changes for a series of OHCs.

As omnibus volumes have become bigger and bigger I find I enjoy OHCs more. I haven't felt the need to change formats for several series when I already have the content in OHC. Examples: Perez Avengers, Waid Daredevil, Coates Captain America (which I haven't read yet), and even Hickman's Avengers. If the do a Tom King Batman Omnibus eventually I won't need those with my OHCs in hand.

DC feels like the bigger offender for omnibus volumes that are just too big. I don't want a 1500-1600 page omnibus.
