Milena (milenas) | 1198 comments I was reading Ducks: Two Years in the Oil Sands for another challenge, and happily it has maps. One of Canada, one of Nova Scotia, and one of the Alberta Oil Sands.

Ron | 2708 comments Okay, so the prompt doesn't specify what types of maps so I've started reading The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma and it has neurological maps so I thought this would be a fun one to use instead.

Anshita (_book_freak) | 267 comments I am reading Sourdough by Robin Sloan. This wasn't my first choice but I like the flow of the first chapter, so I am gonna give it a go.

It has a map of San Francisco where the story is set.

Heather L (wordtrix) | 780 comments Using Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer for this one, which has multiple maps. It is a June selection in a classics group here at GR. I wasn’t planning to read it, but then I stumbled across a used copy in excellent condition for only a dollar, so figured I’d give it a go. Unlike Ron, I don’t read a lot of nonfiction, but it has been interesting.

That's cool that you're reading it, Heather. It's among my top 5 all-time favorite books ever. I discovered it back in 2007 when I heard about the movie. I then read the book first and the movie lived up to it.

It's a book I do want to do a reread on at some point.

(P.S., I would love to hear what you think of it.)

Robin | 1 comments The Fourth Wing has a map inside the front and back cover. That’s going to be my pick if it ever comes off hold.

Lilith (lilithp) | 1073 comments I read Family of Liars by E. Lockhart, and I was surprised how much I liked it. The characters who were just insanely privileged and tstl made me really dislike We Were Liars. These characters in the prequel are privileged, but there is a little more self-awareness.

Heather L (wordtrix) | 780 comments Ron — Into the Wild was an interesting read, with so many unanswered questions. It’s also hitting close to home, as there has been a 13-yr-old in a neighboring county missing for a week now. He stole a family vehicle and drove to a nearby state park—vehicle and a campsite were found in a undesignated area. Prior to disappearing he had received a wilderness guide. They actually scaled back the search for him this weekend because they feared so many strangers looking for him were driving him further away from the original campsite and making him hide. Granted, McCandless was a decade older when he walked away from his family, but events like this make you wonder WTH goes through some people’s minds.

There has been an interesting group discussion in the book, which I finally caught up on. Here’s a link if you’re interested.

Oh nice! What did you think of it?

It's been ages since I read it even though I've wanted to read it again.

Glad to see it seems that you liked it, despite how close it hits. It truly does make you wonder what goes through a person's mind and what makes them do the things they do.

Thanks for the group. I'll have to check it out.

If you ever get the chance, I highly recommend the movie. It stars Emile Hirsh and it was directed by Sean Penn. It really adds a broader view of the book and is beautiful as anything. Add in the music provided by Eddie Vedder and it makes the movie even more emotional.

Ashley Marie | 1028 comments The Jade City trilogy all have maps of Kekon!

Babel: An Arcane History has a map of the Oxford campus.

Rick McIntyre's Wolves of Yellowstone books - The Rise of Wolf 8: Witnessing the Triumph of Yellowstone's Underdog, The Reign of Wolf 21: The Saga of Yellowstone's Legendary Druid Pack, The Redemption of Wolf 302: From Renegade to Yellowstone Alpha Male - all have maps of pack territory in Yellowstone!

OMG have you read these? If so what did you think?

Given that I have a semi-personal connection to the author via a second source, it's so cool when I hear his books getting around.

I've read the first two and enjoyed them!

That's awesome. I want to revisit the books at some point. They were pretty great.

GhouliaLou | 1 comments I bought a book yesterday for funsies and found out after I bought it that it opens with a map! So exciting.

It's called Murder Your Employer: The McMasters Guide to Homicide. The map is in the hardcover edition at least.

Summary: "A devilish thriller with a killer concept: The McMasters Conservatory for the Applied Arts, a luxurious, clandestine college dedicated to the fine art of murder where earnest students study how best to “delete” their most deserving victim."

Sonia Mcintosh | 26 comments I can recommend either -The Holiday Bookshop: The perfect, feel-good beach read for summer 2022 which is a light read about two friends who go on separate vacations. One is an island in the Maldives where she sets up a bookshop in a resort. The other is Treasure & Dirt and murder thriller set in the South Australian opal mines. Both have maps in the front of the books.

Good to know, since I've been thinking I want to read that, and I had no idea it had a map (AND I still need to fill that category)!!

When that book was first announced, I just assumed the title was a play on the McMasters-Carr catalog, but I'm noticing that no one in the reviews mentions THAT McMasters, and now I'm wondering if perhaps it is not as broadly used as I thought. Maybe only engineers and manufacturers talk about that McMasters?
