Maylanie Bosgieter (maylanie-bosgieter) | 221 comments The is series is called Fruit Basket. It was first published in single issue then later put into an Ultimate edition, this edition was never finished it only combined some of the single issues. Later the was redone and the official omnibus editions came out called the collectors edition. The problem is that series pages have been made for both editions, however the combined the editions form the two versions together. I don’t know what Goodreads protocol for this is. But having two different series pages but merging the editions seem redundant to me. The editions need to be separate because it causes confusion when the main book covers are the same for both series. These are the links to both series pages. The easiest way to tell them apart is by the cover art as the omnibus version has updated the style. Natsuki Takaya

The ultimate editions are as follows,
Fruits Basket Ultimate Edition Volume 1
Fruits Basket Ultimate Edition, Vol. 2
Fruits Basket Ultimate Edition, Vol. 3
Fruits Basket Ultimate Edition, Vol. 4
Fruits Basket Ultimate Edition, Vol. 5
Fruits Basket Big Love Edition Volume 5 this one is 6 but it is connected to volume 5.
Fruits Basket Ultimate Edition, Vol. 6
These volume 6’s are duplicates. There is also a volume 5 incorrectly connected to 6. The link to that one is directly below.
Fruits Basket Big Love Edition Volume 6

Duplicate vol. 7
Fruits Basket Ultimate Edition Volume 7
Fruits Basket Big Love Edition Volume 7

Fruits Basket Big Love Edition Volume 8
Some of these are called big love editions. I am not sure if that is the same thing or not.
Fruits Basket Big Love Edition Volume 9
Fruits Basket Big Love Edition Volume 10
Fruits Basket Ed. coleccionista 11

These are the correct IBSNs for the official omnibus version.
Fruits Basket Collector's Edition, Vol. 1
Fruits Basket Collector's Edition, Vol. 2
Fruits Basket Collector's Edition, Vol. 3
Fruits Basket Collector's Edition, Vol. 4
Fruits Basket Collector's Edition, Vol. 5
Fruits Basket Collector's Edition, Vol. 6
Fruits Basket Collector's Edition, Vol. 7
Fruits Basket Collector's Edition, Vol. 8
Fruits Basket Collector's Edition, Vol. 9
Fruits Basket Collector's Edition, Vol. 10
Fruits Basket Collector's Edition, Vol. 11
Fruits Basket Collector's Edition, Vol. 12

There are probably more errors. That is why I added the links to the series page. Hopefully it can get sorted out.

David Raz (davidraz) | 13082 comments I started working on this, but then I realized I needed more information to move on.

The correct protocol is that if the books have identical content, they will be combined into the same work. If multiple series exist with different ordering/numbering/content, the same work will be added to both series. In this case, the content seems to be identical, except one series goes further, so an argument can be made only to have one series, but I see no harm in having both.

Here is what I understood, so please let me know if I'm wrong.

From what I can see, UE1 (Ultimate Edition Vol. 1) and CE1 (Ultimate Edition Vol. 1) both includes issues 1-2, so they are the same work. UE2=CE2=issues 3,4. This goes on up to UE7=CE7, where UE stops. CE goes up to CE12, which seems to include the original issue 23 and some bonus material ("Theater from the Vault," "Memorial File," "Long Interview"). I'm not sure where the bonus material was printed before.

As for the Italian "Big Love Edit), up to BLE4, it plays the same game. It might be that BLE5 is UE6/CE6 and BLE6 is UE5/CE5. The cover suggests this is the case, but we go by the content, not by the cover. Is there any way to know? Anyway, BLE goes all the way to BLE12, which seems to be a reprint of issue 23 with nothing else. If so, it will be combined with the single issue 23 and not with CE12, and there might even be a place to add a series for it.

To summarize, there should probably be a CE and a BLE series. The UE is questionable, but it does little harm. This information can all go to the series description. Is my analysis correct?

Maylanie Bosgieter (maylanie-bosgieter) | 221 comments The editions, at least the English translation are the same. However when yen press relicensesd fruits basket it did a complete retranslation. I don't know if that counts but since the translations are slightly different for the english version, it changes the context a bit. Also the new edition removed all the author notes that the original had because the author felt that information had become outdated and irrelevant. The new edition also added a glossary of sorts for the Japanese honorifics used. The new edition also translated everything, where as the original only did the important stuff and not the cover of books in the book. Or a lecture on a chalkboard in a scene. Other than those things from my understanding is that the story is the same and they are both omnibus's.

David Raz (davidraz) | 13082 comments Since re-translations are considered the same work, there is no reason to have two series. I deleted the "Ultimate Edition" series and added a note to the description of Fruits Basket Collector's Edition Series explaining the connection and mentioning Big Love Edition and Perfect Edition (Italian and French editions).

I'd still want to know if BLE5 is CE5 or CE6, but I can't find any way to learn more about it, so I left a librarian's note about it, and hopefully, someone more knowledgeable can fix it.
