Meli (melihooker) | 4165 comments I have unleashed The Cranberries Zombie out into the PBT world. Now we wait for it to shoot to #1 on the music charts 😈

Love it! I might have to pick this one up if zombies wins. :-)

LibraryCin | 11719 comments I suspect no matter which one wins, people will be able to find more than they think to fit.

I never knew what the song was about, but I do know the song!

LOL!

I don't think it is so much finding something to fit as what we are willing to read, in mood for, given some of the reading recently.

I love a good guantlet thrown challenge!

Sue | 2730 comments I love a good vampire, witch or werewolf book. But I just can't seem to get into the zombies. But if it wins I'm sure I'll find something - probably one of the Christmas-themed books.

Have to admit, I'm similar. I've read plenty of the others (well, not as many werewolf books, but more than zombies). But I will read it if it's chosen, for sure.

Thank you Nancy for that list. There are a couple on there that I would like to read.

message 68: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12952 comments I didn't catch that about the Winners. I would hands down read that for leadership if that's a good option. Great excuse to get to it!

message 69: by Jenni Elyse (new)

Jenni Elyse (jenni_elyse) I can make any of these work. I prefer zombies, even if it's December, lol.

Ha ha! I'll always think of Santa Claus traveling around the world in search of brains or blood from now on. LOL.

Jen K | 3153 comments I accidentally read a zombie book this week and it was adorable: The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy

Intentionally read it but didn't realize that zombies (drudges) were part of the story. It is definitely a romance but was sweet.

message 75: by Barbara M (new)

Barbara M (barbara-m) | 2599 comments My first look at that list had me cringing! I've read so many leadership books in my work and bought many of them but 12 years of retirement means I'm over it! The first pages on writing were pure non-fiction and instructional, again, I'm over it. Zombies would be OK but I was hoping for something different.

The new lists above are giving me hope for both leadership and writing!

I know. I cringe when I look at some of the titles. I’m still attracted to some leadership related concepts, but I want to see them in action in fiction (or maybe a good biography). I like seeing examples of ethical courage, empathy, coaching, and how people deal with change or bring it about.

Small Things Like These. It might not be obvious, but I think it fits a core component of leadership.

Annihilation shows female leadership in a futuristic setting.

Beartown series. These definitely fit, in many ways, at different levels. I will be reading The Winners.

Still Life series by Louise Penny. The early books might not fit, but Armand Gamache is a fascinating leader. The new book should be out soon.

message 77: by Robin P (new)

Robin P | 5791 comments Yes, I went with leadership based on the fiction options. Same if writing wins, I would count a fiction book with an author/librarian/book lover.

The film Pride and prejudice and zombies was on TV the night my son came home. My son was shocked that I was able to quote many lines of dialogue in a zombie movie. Lol. Some scenes follow P&P perfectly. It didn’t hold their interest though, so I switched to Black Hawk Down.

I think if Zombies wins I will probably end up reading Pride and Prejudice and Zombies or one of these other options.

message 82: by Karin (new)

Karin | 9247 comments If Zombies wins it will take a very special book to get me to read one. I couldn't get into Pride, Prejudice and Zombies.

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11106 comments Karin wrote: "If Zombies wins it will take a very special book to get me to read one. I couldn't get into Pride, Prejudice and Zombies."

I couldn’t read it either. The funniest parts of the movie were all visual for me.

message 84: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15645 comments The movie Pride and Prejudice and Zombies was far better than the book IMHO which I considered a very lazy attempt. A different author penned Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters and so far is doing a far better more original and interesting job of it. But it isn't zombies either. At least not yet.

Anita Pomerantz | 9297 comments NancyJ wrote: ".Fiction Examples - I’ll keep adding to this list.
Robin, I know you’ll agree with this first one.
A Town Like Alice
Beartown
The Winners* have
Watership Down
She Who Became the Sun
The Orphan Master's Son
Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler
Under the Dome by Stephen King
The Night Watchman
Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe
Middlemarch by George Elliot
Station Eleven
The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers
Starship Troopers
Louise Penny mysteries would fit too.
Shackleton
Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin - * perfect fit
Small Things Like These - less obvious fit.
Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer.."

Thank you so much for this list . . .I really don't want to read a non-fiction book about leadership unless maybe it's about the monarchy, lol. This list gives a lot of great options.

I didn't like that Sense and Sensibilities one when one of my daughters borrowed it and it was a dnf (so can shelve it that way now that I have a dedicated dnf shelf)--it was the one I tried; when I say that I couldn't get into the Pride and Prejudice and Zombies one what I mean is that I couldn't get into the idea of it at all. Now there is more than one zombies book featuring P&P characters.
