Great, you found it:))) I am actually looking forward to this one. I loved the TV series, but I am sure it has little to do with the books...
I'm going in a bit blind. It's just been on my shelves for a while and I wanted to deep into fantasy again !
Hahaha! I know how that is, Monika:))) We have been dreaming about some pocket universes, in which we can enter, read as much as we want, and in the real universe, only minutes would have passed... This way we might get to all the books we want to read:)))
True Choko :) but we can only... Dream on LOL! 24 hours a day are not enough for reading and all the rest of our real life plus even bookstore need some sleep hihihi
I started the book !
I'm a few chapters in. The writing is a bit confusing at times but I'm intrigued so far

I started today and I am enjoying it so far. Richard seems like a very likable character. I haven't met his brother yet, but I already don't trust him. They have obviously chosen different paths in life and are very different as people. I can't wait to meet Zed! I kind of cheated and read the short novella prequel yesterday first. I am guessing this is going to be the same Zed as in that short. He created the barrier between the land where the evil dude rules and there is magic there, and an area where there is no magic. I am guessing Richard is in the non-magical area. And that evil vine and the mysterious lady are some of his first experiences with magical stuff... I guess we read on to find out:)))
Totally with you on all those points! The insta-friendship was very implausible, I agree:))) But I like Kahlan and Richard, so I guess I am rolling with it:)))
To tell the truth I don't know if I'm gonna be able to read this haha
I have a really hard time with the writing and the characters development. I'm not really far into it but considering it's such a big book I think I'm probably gonna DNF. So sorry about this .

No problem! Not every book is for everyone at any time. Might be one day you will come back to it:) I am actually up to Ch. 12 and the writing is kind of off-putting for real... The author acts as if he is so insightful, but it comes off as theatrically preachy... He is like a hammer with his messages, instead of conveying them through action and character subtlety...
It's really a lot of showing and no telling. Anyways, thank you for understanding :)

From everything I've read online, Terry Goodkind is like one of the biggest assholes in fantasy... except he doesn't think he writes fantasy... he writes "about important human themes"...

Yes, I noticed this too while reading other reviews
I made it through 2 books before I called it quits... I just wasn't looking to read a series where every character gets raped, almost gets rapes, or is threatened with rape but the threatener dies before the rape can happen...
yes, I saw some people talk about that too! In the first few chapters there is a scene of assault, but it's very mild but it was so out of place and unnecessary.
the baddie rapes the crap out of the main character dude for a long time in book 2 I think... or maybe it's near the end of book 1... I forget...
Wow! That sucks! But again, another book written in 94, just as we were talking about, time when it seemed sex was what sold books, even when forced or violent... This is the time I came up with my theory that all good fantasy and sci-fi authors are horrible at writing sex and often romance...
I am almost a third into the book, so I am going to read it to the end. The author's writing is not very good! I think I have warm feelings for the main characters because of the TV series, where I was absolutely in love with Kahlan and had a small crush on Richard. Plus the scenery was absolutely beautiful, since it was filmed in New Zealand. I have been reading, trying to see if we are given any world building, but I am in Ch. 21 and there is absolutely nothing to help us with imagining the setting, the clothing, the culture or anything really. We have the boundaries, but we are not given any other details... My mind is filling everything else with imagery from TV. Say whatever you want for WoT and its many descriptions and background, but I can feel being in those books, I know all the world cultural diversity, architecture, history... I feel like I have stepped into the world of WoT. Here, it is just a whole lot of "wise teaching", some very obtrusive mannerisms of the bad dude and insta-friendship/love... I understand why readers give up on it...
So , I am in Ch. forty-something and I am getting John Norman Gor series vibes. A lot of S&M with a whole lot of dominance and abuse games, against one of the participants will, which is straight up abuse in my opinion... In all of those types of books what pisses me off is, that the abused always develop some feelings of love or similar towards their abuser... I have no idea where we are going with this, but I hope the fact that the abused has some previous claim to his love towards someone else, would preclude that from happening...
Seven chapters behind me. So... 3 main characters plus one very nasty black character. Interesting start of story, I like it so far.
Need to read trilogy by Will Wight and crime novel by Agatha Christie and maybe romance written by my friend to have enough space LOL!
So we have last Mother Confessor, great Wizard who was hiding for years and Seeker who didn't know about it till now. What they'll do? They have not much time seems like it. Interesting.
25% of book behind me, more and more interesting. Specially reaction of Bill - man from inn near boundary - about Robert's brother. Am I wrong to think Robert's brother is a piece of nasty crap? I didn't like his attitude during this kinda party when he announced he is First Councillor few old chapters ago. Something is fishy here.
19 chapters behind me. Definitely Darken Rahl is bad boy. What a manipulative piece of... I bet you know what I mean. I like Adie character - smart old miss.
Right, reach 50% of book :) so another 400+ pages to read left :) I'm curious why Kahlan is not too 'happy' to see this witch woman... Will find out soon I think :)
I'll try my best LOL! Have 6 of them on my KU, maybe I'll grab other 5 too :) depends how fast I clean space on my kindle hihihi!
85% behind me. Richard is in kinda troubles... Is really someone there a traitor? Who? Denna is an interesting character I have to say....
