Lilith (lilithp) | 1079 comments I read Girl, Interrupted and liked it a lot more than I thought I would.
I worked at McLean Hospital years ago, but a long time after Susanna Kaysen was in treatment. In fact, I worked on several units over the years, and loved my time on South Belknap II. Treatment changes as we accumulate more knowledge and research.
I resisted reading for soooo long, because I thought the book would be a big fat whingeing complaint based on a limited perspective. It was very different, more insightful than I imagined, and brought back some amazing memories.
Nothing like the movie, and more like the reality I worked with.
4.5 stars!

LeahS | 491 comments I read Girl by Edna O'Brien. Based on interviews and research by the author it is a fictional story of one of the Nigerian schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram. As one of the cover quotes said, it both devastating and deeply moving, and deals both with Maryam's life after the kidnapping and after the return to 'normal' life.

Recommendations: The Girl with the Louding Voice; Girl with the Pearl Earring;.

I am just about to finish The Downstairs Girl and I am REALLY enjoying this book, much more than I anticipated. I've been wanting to read it for a while but never got around to it, so I'm grateful for this category giving me that final push to read it.

This is the book I'm thinking of going with.

I want to read a nonfiction title for this prompt and this one seems like an easy pick.
