Happy Birthday dear IGGPPC
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!!!!

Hello Iggles!! If you haven't heard March is IGGPPC's 2nd Birthday! And to celebrate the challenge for this month is to read a book published in March 2013, the month this amazing community came into our lives!

Here is a list of popular book from March 2013, which ever one you choose, either from this list or one you found on your own, make sure the publication date here on Goodreads is March 2013, I will check!
Happy reading, Iggles!!

https://www.goodreads.com/book/popula...

Rules are:
-It has to be a new book for you, one you haven't read before
-It must be different than our other book picks, so it can't be the same main, comic book, manga or series we are reading that month
-You have to read it within that month to get the achievement.
-Check in with us once you've read your book, you can do that here, on twitter, the IGGPPC forums or our new Instagram page, I love seeing covers so take a picture and share with us!

Don't forget to message me once you've completed this challenge for and achievement code

Sarah (AdventGeekGirl) (adventgeekgirl) | 56 comments I think I'm going to check out A Tale for the Time Being. For one, it has nuns. For another, it was marked as a "Want to Read," even though I can't think of where I would have saw this book prior. Either way, it's going to be my choice and it looks pretty interesting.

Regan (mollytornado) | 36 comments I've decided to read The Immortal Rules. It isn't a book I would usually read, but I think the great thing about reading challenges is that it pushes you to read outside of what you normally would.

Katie Kempski (darthphasma) | 120 comments OoOOoOoOOOOOooo. I've always wanted to read Z: A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald. That's the one I'm gonna do!

message 5: by Danica (new)

Danica (danicaface) | 13 comments Yes! Perfect motivation to read the Zelda Fitzgerald novel! I can't believe it's been out for two years and I still haven't gotten around to reading it!

Chrissy | 9 comments If you're into urban fantasy I highly recommend Written in Red (The Others, #1) by Anne Bishop I loved it! For this challenge I think I'll be reading Earth & Sky by Kaye Draper

I'm going to read Written in Red!! It's been on my trb list for a while!

Heather (seaanemone) | 19 comments Not on the above list, but I am selecting I Want to Show You More.

message 10: by Leah (new)

Leah | 5 comments I am thinking of reading Fahrenheit 451.
I've heard of it and I think it sounds really cool.

message 11: by Danni (new)

Danni N (odannigirl) Not that I want to discourage anyone from reading Fahrenheit 451, but can it really count for this challenge? It was first published in 1953, not 2013.

That being said everyone should read it. It's a great book.

message 12: by Fay (new)

Fay Roberts I just finished The Best of Me by Nicholas Sparks (180 on the list). it was my first ever Sparks novel and I haven't seen any of the movies so don't know if this one was his standard. It was OK but I did feel a little like I was cheating on Nora Roberts :-) Did get me to thinking too, why is this classed as a novel, or at worst chick lit, just because the author is male? If a female author had written this it would have been published by Mira and called a romance. I will definitely check out some others when I'm in a romance novel frame of mind........

I agree. I would have chosen this one, but for the reasons that you stated, I didn't. However, if you have a further look, there are a few in that list that weren't originally published in March 2013.

Actually, I just had a look at the book I've chosen, The Immortal Rules, and it was originally published on April 24th 2012.

So, I don't know... Michelle? Do you think it's okay to still read these books?

Elizabeth (persephone17) Regan wrote: "I've decided to read The Immortal Rules. It isn't a book I would usually read, but I think the great thing about reading challenges is that it pushes you to read outside of what you..."

I read that and really enjoyed it, which is saying something since I don't tend to enjoy vampire novels anymore. I think I'll be reading A Tale for the Time Being along with Sarah. Also, while the reading challenge is Michelle's domain, I feel like Fahrenheit 451 wouldn't be applicable...I think they have to actually be published in March 2013. Michelle has the final say, though.

Hmm... This is tricky, the edition on the list was published in March 2013.... so I'll allow it if you want to read it :)

Here is a list of Comic trade paperbacks that came out. Just scroll down to March. I'll do a little bit more digging tomorrow and see if I can find one for Manga :)
I saw there was a Hawkeye in the original list which I'll be reading as well. I must read all the Matt Fraction I can get my hands on.

Okay. So, then I guess it would be alright for people to read the edition of Fahrenheit 451 published in March 2013?

Christa (lessthn3) | 90 comments I think I'm gonna go for A Tale for the Time Being as well. A friend whose opinions I value highly really enjoyed it. :)

Michelle (michelletheresa) | 228 comments We are at the half way point! How is everyone doing?
I'm having issues switching genres... but I am determined to finish Written in Red by the end of the month!

message 23: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer I've just finished 'A tale for the Time Being' by Ruth Ozeki.

I bought it years ago based on the picture on the front. I tried to read it back then but I wasn't in the right mood for it.

But boy I was this time. What a brilliant book. I would recommend it to anyone and everyone.

The format of the book was really interesting. I quite new to Japanese culture and found it interesting to read about things I've just recently learnt about, like maid cafes and temples. The switch between cultures were a great read, both interesting.

Samantha (samanyaaron) | 146 comments @Jenifer That book sounds good, i think i will add to my TBR list

Kate C | 65 comments Mod
I'd already read a few and had to search quite hard in my local library, but in the end I read Hawkeye: My Life as a Weapon

message 26: by Danica (new)

Danica (danicaface) | 13 comments Finished the Zelda Fitzgerald novel and I would highly recommend it for anyone just starting the challenge. I devoured it in just a few days.

message 27: by Claire (new)

Claire | 45 comments I'm reading Requiem by Lauren Oliver- it's been 2 years since I read the other two, so in struggling to get back into the story. But this challenge was the push I needed to finish the trilogy !

message 28: by Melissa (new)

Melissa (eris_discord42) | 35 comments I just finished A Conspiracy of Alchemists and I was not thrilled. I have read steam punk type novels before and generally like them but for the life of me I just had a hard time getting into this book. I was relieved to finish it. I really cannot pinpoint why I didn't care for it.

message 29: by Claire (new)

Claire | 45 comments I finished Requiem today, it was not a satisfying conclusion at all. Lots of things were unsaid, and it felt rushed. But, on to the next book!

I tried that novel as well but I just gave up! Marsh just got on my nerves a bit.

message 31: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (persephone17) So, I chose Avatar: The Last Airbender: The Search, Part 1 to read, because I'm not sure if I'll finish A Tale for the Time being in March. But I never knew how much I missed these characters! I just finished rewatching A:TLA and I'm watching LOK right now, but it was so nice to see the gang back together again. There's also a nice transition between this and the TV show, which is good, since that can be choppy sometimes. I can't wait to see what exactly happened to Zuko and Azula's mother!

message 32: by Christa (new)

Christa (lessthn3) | 90 comments Finished A Tale for the Time Being today - it was great! I definitely appreciate the excuse to read it. :) Very cool mood to it and the two narrators are great at building a world. I like how the ending was a bit open to interpretation.

message 33: by Samantha (new)

Samantha (samanyaaron) | 146 comments I finished 6 years by Harlan Coban for this month challenge

message 34: by Maria (new)

Maria | 25 comments Just finished How to Get Filthy Rich in Rising Asia for this challenge. Was a little odd as it is a novel written in the second person with no named characters so it was a bit disorientating. Glad I picked it up though as it was refreshing to read something so different!

message 35: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (persephone17) If you've finished your book and need the code, don't forget to message Michelle! I noticed when I got mine, no else had gotten it. You can always message me for it if she's a bit behind on passing out codes. :)

message 36: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 15 comments Finally finished The Girls of Atomic City: The Untold Story of the Women Who Helped Win World War II. I really really wanted to like it more because it covers a really intriguing and complicated part of our fairly recent history and being told from women's perspective? Sounds great! Unfortunately, interesting subject aside, it was just a disappointing and slogging read for me. And there are some really horrible things that are not really glossed over...but maybe in an attempt to not put too much editorial commentary in the book, the author leaves the interpretation of such things up to the reader in a way that was unsettling to me. Things like how segregated the town of Oak Ridge was and how a black man who was in a car accident was denied treatment for his broken legs and other injuries to give doctors enough time to collect "baseline" samples from him before injecting him with plutonium to see what its effects were. The way the book is written gives such events the same weight (and I would actually argue less weight) than the stories of how complicated it was to go on a first date where you couldn't talk about your job because of the top secret nature of the work.

Ultimately, it was still a good read, and I would recommend it if someone were interested, but I was kind of disappointed in it.

message 37: by Clémence (new)

Clémence | 117 comments Finished Z: A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald two days ago for this challenge ! Thanks to those of you who recommended it on this thread, it was a very good read - even if I was skeptical for the first chapters.

Sarah (AdventGeekGirl) (adventgeekgirl) | 56 comments I am still making my way through A Tale for the Time Being, but I am so very much loving it! I am so glad I finally got to read it. I'm well into the 60%s of the book at this point.

I love that I can feel the connections between Japanese literature and modern literature. I love the layering of the narration and the clearly different, yet so similar women. The parallels of life and how, despite being far away, we can connect to people and find a way to not be alone in the universe or time.

Love it bunches and glad others enjoyed it, too.

message 39: by Regan (new)

Regan (mollytornado) | 36 comments I was reading The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa for this month's challenge, but I wasn't enjoying it, so I decided to drop it and read Hawkeye, Vol. 1: My Life as a Weapon instead. I actually enjoyed Hawkeye more than I expected. I liked the humour, along with Clint and Kate's relationship. The art by David Aja is good; the use of purple throughout is nice.

The only bad thing I have to say about it is that it ended with Young Avengers Presents #6. I didn't like the art style at all. I didn't like the way Kate Bishop was written, especially in comparison to how cool she was in the Hawkeye comics that came before this issue. The storyline was filled with cliche teen drama. Overall, it felt clunky.

It was disappointing to finish on a bad note, but I can't deny how much I enjoyed issues #1-5 of Hawkeye. I'll definitely be picking up the next volume.
