okay so my first block is that idk how to make my character hate each other. It's meant to be bc of past experiences but idk what past experience to put can someone help pls?
okay so my first block is that idk how to make my character hate each other. It's meant to be bc of past experiences but idk what past experience to put can someone help pls?
mmkay so the best way to figure this out would probably be to ask yourself a few questions. for example...~ what is the genre of your book and/or time period? because you're not going to have that past experience be something modern in a medieval world. if it's fantasy then other more magical factors could play a part but if it's more realistic then it would be a more life-like experience.
~ another one could be... what is the relationship that was between these two characters before? like if they're siblings then it could be a family thing, if they were lovers something different, maybe they were just strangers. figuring that out should help narrow the field.
also if you know how you want their rivalry to be already then you can ask yourself what would make you act like that. it doesn't even have to be directly connected to the characters themselves
for example - my MCs had a rival/enemy relationship when they first met because their two homelands had been at war, they never actually fought each other before but it was enough for them to be against each other

Also- anything can change
And it can be about what sides they both live on, like how Dove said about rivals, do they clash to make them hate each other? I sense an enemies to lovers- so maybe these sides are blurred- so that they can change sides or merge them together etc
Is one better than the other at something?
Were they okay with each other before, then a betrayal hits to make them loathe each other?

woah, tysm for the tips they are actually so goood! @Ruqayyah, yeah it is an enemies to lovers, too easy to guess lol! basically, it's modern and realistic and i want them to have met at like a summer camp or something like that but like idk what they do in the summer camp to make each other hate each other so much if that makes sense.

Hmm maybe if they've met in the past before or if they do some team building in the camp and one of them becomes so infuriatingly annoying they grow to hate eachother.
Then there could be a scene where one hurts themself- is it in a forests or I'm just seeing a summer camp in a forets lol
and the other has to save them or something
