Forgiven by Rebecca Brooke
Rebecca Brooke is a new author to me. I love meeting new authors and getting to know their writing styles.
I love the premise and story that Rebecca weaves in this book. Everyone deserves a second chance. Sometimes that’s all it takes to be happy.
The college setting seems well thought out. I enjoyed the style that Rebecca used to show us the characters.
I love the way forgiveness frees Angie and Caleb to be who they are meant to be. Great twists to add drama. Keep tissues handy.
I was gifted this book in exchange for an honest review.

I just finished this book and was amazed at the depth of writing. Brandy wrote with flare and the story was intriguing. There were places where it felt was too wordy to me. But, it was still most enjoyable. I love the romance mixed in with all the twists and turns.
I adored all the “others” that were written about. Brandy made it feel like I could go to the neighborhood bar and find “others.”
I was gifted this book for an honest review.

I don't know where to begin with this review. The story was different from anything I've ever read. It was nice to read something out of my normal range of books. All of the characters had chapters told from their POV. That gave the author a chance to disclose many details without bogging down the story by including flashbacks. This is the first story I have read where all the characters are so flawed and have so much emotional baggage. There wasn't a "normal" person in the story. There were times I felt Ana was too naive considering the life she had lived.
I enjoyed the relationship between Finn and Jon. These brothers were so different from each other but they loved and respected one another. You knew they were willing to do anything for each other - no questions asked. I also liked that Augustus lied to Ana about her mother. It showed how much he really loved her and wanted to protect her.
I had a problem with Finn not getting everything in order before the storm hit. Having lived on the island his entire life, nothing could have distracted him from being prepared. I also didn't understand how Ana had no food simply because the refrigerator wasn't working. It was cold enough to preserve the food with no refrigerator. Plus, she should have had nonperishable food items.
I felt there wasn't enough character develoment. I never got to really know any of them. They were all superficial to me. It would have been nice if the relationship between Ana and Finn had been developed more. I never felt any chemistry between them even though the potential was there.
The story itself was good. I like the premise of city girl in a very rural setting who asks how to survive the winter weather instead of being ignorant of the realities. Except when it came to appropriate winter clothing.
I haven't read the first book in this series but it wasn't necessary in order to read this story. This is a stand-alone book. I can see definite potential for Book 3 in this series as there are several plots that could be expanded.
