Suggestion (for now or next year)- would it be possible to have several secret tags each month to choose from? If the tags are narrow, and there won’t be a lot of time for advance planning, it might be hard to find and obtain an appealing choice on time.

If we do the 25 or 50 title list and do repeats, what happens with the same title showing up later when we have already landed on it earlier (did I explain that clearly?). Can we substitute a new title in our list for the one already read?

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11101 comments We sometimes end up with one time consuming challenge and one lighter. Does anyone have a sense of which challenges would end up being heavier or lighter? So far none seem really extreme.

It appears that the birthday challenge, secret tag, and back to college are limited to 12 to 16 books (or tasks) for the year. The baton would likely involve far fewer books (but more group coordination), and the game board is hard to predict.

Is Jeopardy limited to one choice per month? (Of 1 to 3 books.)

Would we learn all 15 of the birthday tasks at the beginning of the year? I would be in favor of that for planning purposes.

It's sentimental, something I relate to as well. Too often milestones are not celebrated or honored unless they are really big ones. An online reading group surviving 15 years and growing and active - that's worth honoring! This challenge is a good one for it - covering the nostalgia of Shelfari for those who were here then, also honoring us newer members and what we have brought as well those who started it all.

I've not voted yet - waiting to see what questions generate answers. It all seems pretty clear to me. I would not want more complexity added to any of them.

I like it too. It sounds like it could have a lot of variety, and it has sentimental appeal. It also looks like it could have multiple winners.

Back to school is appealing to me too because of the wide range of tags we could choose for ourselves. I didn’t get to do a year abroad in real life, and I always like to have a special topic to read about each year. I think I could do it all with fiction books.

These are my top two so far. I’ll wait to vote until I read more.

You can use the book that is either one space ahead or one space behind where you land (but you don't move from the current space).

That's the challenge part, lol.

Yes, one dollar choice amount per month, and the task could involve more than one book.

Yes, my intention is to release all 15 birthday tasks at once.

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11101 comments Anita, I have a question about rule 7 for Subdue the shelf. Let’s say that I decide to read one of my books early (because of a book club, a tag, buddy read, or a failed brain synapse), but Not because I landed on it previously. Would rule 7 still apply, or would I have to wait to roll again? In this type of situation, I think the rule should be the same regardless of how many titles we used to create our board.

I may be in the minority, but I would prefer having to wait for my next roll. If I for some reason read a book I identified for the game before landing on it, then I just have to lose out on that turn and reward, and wait. Otherwise someone could just read a bunch of books included in your gameboard and when the number comes up, just read another.

Whatever books I put on the gameboard, I keep isolated so I don't trip myself up in a challenge.

Anita Pomerantz | 9296 comments So, just to be clear, these are game concepts you are voting for . . .so while I do appreciate the inquiries because they help me refine the final rules, they aren't 100% solidified.

That being said, if you read books on your gameboard in advance, that's what the two swaps are for . . .once those are used, there is going to have to be a rule for contending with the situation. But it's definitely unlikely to be the same as if the book was already read in the context of the challenge. It will probably involve moving backward a roll until you get to an unread title. Something along those lines.
